Asking for a client who's getting fed up their current Cloudtrax based hotspot, which had a major UI change a few months ago and feels it's too complicated to use and lost a few features.

I had a look at UniFi as it's very highly rated by you guys for wifi range/reliability/speed but wanted to know if it's able to do a few things:

1) Can a single voucher be used by multiple clients?
2) If so, is it possible to set a time limit per client device?
3) Can you set up bandwidth limit per device or voucher?
3) Will I need to set up a VLAN on the router side or will the hotspot be already isolated?
5) Can you set up a voucher preset so it will be easy for someone to generate a new voucher code instead of always needing to set up the voucher settings all the time?

Basically what we're trying to achieve is, the manager will generate a voucher code for customers to share with, the voucher itself lasting for 48 hours. There is no limit for the amount of customers using the same voucher code at any time. For customers, once they enter the voucher code, their device will be allowed internet access for 2 hours until they are required to enter the code again. When the 48 hours are up, the voucher itself will expire and the manager will generate a new one.

Will UniFi be able to do this?

A

1) Can a single voucher be used by multiple clients? Yes, you can create multi use vouchers
2) If so, is it possible to set a time limit per client device? No, but you can set a time limit per voucher
3) Can you set up bandwidth limit per device or voucher? Per voucher yes
3) Will I need to set up a VLAN on the router side or will the hotspot be already isolated? You do not need VLAN, Unifi will isolate for you
5) Can you set up a voucher preset so it will be easy for someone to generate a new voucher code instead of always needing to set up the voucher settings all the time? No, but it's easy enough to do without the need for templates

I would strongly suggest you spinning up a VM and having a dig around Unifi before you suggest this approach. Unifi software is free and so is a Linux VM.

Worst case scenario your company needs to fork out £70 for a bottom range UAP to test on.

In essence it should do borderline what you want but your client may have to "alter" the approach a little to fit Ubiquiti

Also, the main admin can create non admin users in the management software and allow these users to create and manage the wifi codes.

Thanks all, I'll have a play around then and see if my client is interested. Looks like it should do what they want :).

If you are looking for an enterprise level solution check out Aruba Wireless and ClearPass - their IAP 220 series are very good.
