A replacement for the bios will make your pc boot in seconds, The replacement to the bios is called UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface).

According to Brian Richardson of AMI, The bios code is hampering development of 64 bit computers.

With the UEFI chips, a computer will boot in a just a couple of seconds and will be more flexible with new hardware. The new chips will appear in machines as soon as 2011.

sounds all good to me nothing worse than bios wait time.

To be honest boot times could be quick now with current BIOSes. My laptop has a quickboot mode that assumes the last settings and boots instantly.

Are you sure this isn't actually some form of sleep/hibernation mode?

Nope. Does it on cold boot and if I've hibernated. Very cool, starts so quickly! :cool:
