Hi,
I am about to install a new graphics card (Saphhire 6870) in my machine which up until now has been running with onboard graphics only (Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard/AMD X4 960t CPU).
The new graphics card manual states that all existing graphics drivers/cards should be removed as a matter of course prior to installing the new card and drivers. It is not explicitly clear what it recommends in the case of onboard graphics.
However, this link suggests that onboard graphics drivers should not be uninstalled if the new card will utilise the PCIE bus.
I think the information in the link is more likely to be correct, as it is published by AMD themselves, and both the card and onboard graphics relate to their products/chipsets: however I would be grateful of your advice before I go ahead.
The BIOS is already set to look for a card on the PCIE bus first, before onboard graphics. The link suggests that this will be all that is required to do to get it working acceptably.
It is of course foreseeable that at some point in the future I will wish to utilise both the graphics card and the onboard graphics at the same time, and so would want to keep that option open if possible.
Thanks.
