Uninstall Safari

Apologies in advance for this because I hate it when people answer a question with another question, but why would you want to uninstall Safari? I'm not being awkward, I'm just interested.

I don't use it myself and I'm not bothered about removing it, but have you tried just dragging it from /Applications into the trash?

Well I tried dragging the app into the trash can but it doesn't work. It's as if Apple have decided they know best. I personally prefere Firefox and dislike the idea of having two browsers on my system.

In that case you probably can't. Safari and the underlying code (webkit) is an integral part of the OS as IE is with Windows. If you don't like it, just ignore it. Two browsers won't hurt, they won't interract with each other, so just pretend it's not there. I was going to suggest renaming it with a . at the front so it's hidden but it seems that's not possible either.

Fair enough, it seems OS X has helped with my OCD in so many other ways, I can forgive it for this one thing.

You can delete it by putting it in the trash, I've done it before.

Can't get the ****er back though! Need to steal it off another machine.

Also.. why? It's 45mb - does it bother you that much?

Well it doesn't drag in to the trash but I have learnt to live with it. Do you think it's the best browser for the mac? I'm a new adopter :)

I can drag mine to the trash but when opening links it still opens Safari so I guess it's for removable.

On a side note Feek, I thought you could uninstall IE from Windows these days, wasn't that one of the demands the EC made?

Its still a required part of Windows so it will never completely go away unless they re-write the whole OS. But you can uninstall it so the actual application never loads and you won't see shortcuts for it on the system. The actual rendering engine will always be there though.
