hi all.

think this is the correct place for this.

Basically i want to unistall firefox completely and get rid of all traces. I have tried just a basic uninstall and then deleted any remains from program files and using a registry scanner but when i re-install my favourites are still there as well as the history, cookies etc.

can anyone help me get rid of the whole lot so when i reinstall i have to import favourites etc. again. I just want to do a completely clean install of firefox.

hope this kinda make sense and thanks in advance for any help.

regards.

You'll need to remove your profile too. In Windows XP, it'll be at C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

thanks for the help although i just tried that and the history, cache and everything was still there when i reinstalled. also tried searching all hidden files etc. for firefox and deletedthem all but no luck.

this data must be kept elsewhere although i have no idea where it could be?

If you've manually deleted your profile under that folder, there are only two places I can think of which it could be pulling that sort of information from:

  1. Internet Explorer. If I recall correctly, you are prompted during install to import information such as bookmarks and history from Internet Explorer.
  2. If you're an old school Firefox user, you may have application data listed under C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Phoenix\Profiles\ which Firefox could be importing.

av. :)

this is a fresh install of windows from only a couple of weeks ago and i installd firefox 1.5.0.1 so unfortunately it can't be that.

this is really bugging me as it must be kept somewhere! maybe firefox is here to stay regardless :)

again thanks for the help guys hope i can get this sorted.

Is there a reason for doing so? My reason for asking is I am about to remove Firefox forever after being a loyal fan due to it losing all of its settings every few days and deleting all of my bookmarks that aren't in a folder (even a few of those it touches).

I've had it with the program

Whoop

Deathwish - many thanks that seemed to do the trick and all was gone when i reinstalled. :D

Strange cos im sure i was deleting everything when i was removing it before but clearly not!

whoop - i think you should try a clean install of firefox (as above) as i too have had the problem before of it deleting bookmarks etc on its on own accord.

Thanks for all the help guys - it is much appreciated.
