Hey guys,

Tonight I tried to remove NSW2005 (Subscription up) from my Dads machine and it wouldn’t let me

I tried from add/remove programs and it just would let me? It gave me an error and the choices of either; retry, ignore or abort?

I naturally chose ignore, and it let me uninstall as much as it could – it doesn’t seem to have left any real lasting impressions, just shortcuts etc, but the recycle bin still says its protected by Norton – even though there is no functionality?

I seem to remember a while ago, someone here claimed to have a tool/script to COMPLETELY remove all traces of anything Norton related from a machine

If so, can I have some names or links please ;)

Cheers,

SW.

Hi,

First of all hopefully this is a lesson not to use Norton again :p (what sort of decent program makes it difficult in a lot of situations to uninstall itself?)

Secondly I've never used Norton but a quick google brought this up and I think it is for the version you have.

I myself gave up using Norton products a couple of months back, I'm just in the process of converting my parents atm :D

I think Symantec products been in slow decline for the last couple of years or so? I used to swear by them ;)

Now I consider them to be slow resource hogs, unreliable and now; unpredictable

I've had so many problems recently; (Of my own and of other peoples!) it’s put me off using anything with the Symantec logo ever again!

Thanks for the link, I shall give it a go tomorrow?

Cheers,

SW.

No worries, I hear the unrelated Symantec Coporate Editions are meant to be pretty good but Norton itself I have had a lot of problems with when using other people's computers.

Good luck with it all.

I hate hate hate norton. It screws up every PC I see it on. 9 times out of 10 when someone asks me to look at their PC because theres problems or its running slow its got/or had Norton on it somewhere. Really I'm surprised there hasn't been a class action against them in the States. Their software is now (because it used to be ok 10 yrs ago) some of the worst ever to be compiled.

Currently cleaning up a laptop with SystemWorks 2006 on it. Should be renamed SystemDoesn'tWork. Its worse than a virus to remove. I'll probably end up putting a fresh install of Xp on this one. I've tried everything under the sun to remove it and I can't. None of Nortons suggestions work. If they can't uninstall their own software how is joe soap meant to do it.

Just in case anyone else reads this and has the same problem. I reinstalled SystemWorks 2006 from the CD, which took an incredible 6-8 hours, I left it running most of the day. Once installed, I turned off the multitide of auto scans it was doing, then uninstalled it. Which seems to have got rid of it. Machine still seems a bit slow though. Doing more tests on it.

Would have been quicker to reinstall Xp from scratch. But I wanted to go through the user profiles for each user on the machine backing up their settings and data.
