Uniquiti U6 Mesh 99% utilisation on 2.4Ghz

Last night my WiFi network was absolutely fine. All my devices were happily connecting to 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks as they needed. This morning all the 2.4Ghz devices have been kicked off and can’t reconnect. Looking at the channel usage, the 2.4Ghz spectrum is completely utilised with 99% interference.

Nothing has changed overnight so I’m left with the question - why has this happened? And is there anything I can do to fix it?

Do you have any devices that are 2.4GHz-only? Turn 2.4 off on your main SSID and make a new one for 2.4GHz devices.

Shedloads of IoT devices all running (or were running) on their own 2.4 SSID.

Strange one this. As I mentioned in my original post, nothing had changed on the set up and the issue started overnight. I moved the U6 to another part of my house, started it up and the problem went away - the 2.4Ghz devices connected as expected.

There are two possible causes of interference- a zigbee co-ordinator, and my smart electricity meter. However, as I say there were no problems previously so goodness knows what the actual cause is.

your neighbours ?

They're far away enough that their routers don't interfere with mine. I can see them in the environment scan

Maybe the U6 went a bit mad and the reboot cured it

Maybe but it had been rebooted two or three times already. Only the location change made a difference.

One issue with environment scans and WiFi analyzer apps is they only show WiFi networks, and not anything else. Seeing as it still works in a new location, I suspect something around the old spot something may have gone faulty and is leaking out into the 2.4GHz spectrum. Might even be faulty equipment from the neighbour's if the old spot is near them.

Definitely nothing to do with my neighbour's setups which are just basic ISP routers and are sufficiently far away not to cause any bother.

As I mentioned earlier the only devices that operate on the 2.4Ghz spectrum would be the two Zigbee devices (zigbee co-ordinator and zigbee smart meter) which were close to the U6. I've a suspicion the smart meter may be the culprit but how to prove that is another matter as that's one thing I can't turn off!

It doesn't have to be your neighbours 'setups' It can be anything that emits RF. Which is quite a lot of things these days. it use to be cordless phones and microwaves, but that amount of smart tech in home these days it could be allsorts polluting your RF space.

True but my nearest neighbour is about thirty yards away. It would have to be seriously bad issue (and also very targeted) with a device to completely pollute my 2.4Ghz spectrum. The access point I have outside is perfectly fine and before you ask, it's on a different channel from my U6
