United owner Malcolm Glazer dead

I didn't think Malcolm actually owned any shares. I thought his kids owned then and it's 2 of his sons that actually run the club.

Anybody remember the Manchester Buccaneers?

His health had been failing since he had a couple of strokes in 2006, it's hardly surprising really.

It's owned by the family, split equally between the kids. There's more kids than the three on the board, five sons I think.

Clearly a good businessman, not much of a footballing guy though.

R.I.P nonetheless.

Everywhere tonight is saying he never visited OT once, so this made me laugh sadly as its so understated.

5 sons and a daughter, most of which are on the board at Utd.

Camt stand what they have done to the club but the commercial business has gone through the roof since their arrival ( although no-one could predict what would have happened otherwise)

Best part of £1bn has been spent since their arrival on servicing the debt and player transfers......unfortunaly only 1/3 of that sum was for playing staff. All of the top 6 excl Everton and Arsenal have outspent Utd since the Glazers arrived, with Chelsea and City spending at least 50% more than Utd in this time frame.

A few of the obituries mention that some of the sons are imterested in liquidating majority of their assets but its unknown whether its a " deciding" share

RIP

He suffered a stroke less than a year after buying the club. Considering he was well into his 70s at the time, its not that surprising he hasn't been over since.

He was obviously a successful businessman and not necessarily a big football fan.

I understand that, but given the size of the purchase (ffs any business bought), most would expect the new owner to visit at least once - the fact that its football or any other product is irrelevant.

He was 75+ when he bought the club, I'm certainly not suggesting that he wasn't capable of visiting, but it looks very much like the investment was made on behalf of his family (children). I doubt he ever intended to be an active 'owner' and the stroke is unlikely to have helped that situation.

I just don't see anything overly surprising about the fact that he personally has never been, particularly given his health. Maybe if the same was true about the rest of the family, but that's not the case.
