Universal docking station to replace bedside clock

I want to use my cheapy smart phone as an alarm clock and music player.

I could do with something that I can charge the phone with and that powers external speakers. Is there anything that does this. Not looking for much expense. Can I even charge a smart phone and play music at the same time?

Any knowledge of what's out there?
