Universal Imaging...

nlite, with a driver pack addon.

free, and well documented.

Check the msfn.org forums :)

This http://binaryresearch.net/products/the_universal_imaging_utility works when used in conjunction with Ghost or many other imaging software but is not free.

Hope that helps though. :)

I've already looked at UIU. It works well but is expensive.

I'm ideally looking for something I can build myself.

Again, I've used nLite before (and love it!), but I'm wanting something that is a preconfigured image that I can restore within a few minutes, instead of having to go through an install.

sysprep, then acronis with universal restore is your best bet

restoring to any hardware is pretty hard to achieve

sysprep is supposed to be used on machines with the same chipsets, acronis universal restore is meant to overcome this limitation
