Hi all :)

To clarify on the subject line.. I'm looking at building a system that I can mount to the back of my 23" monitor using its VESA holes.

There are a small handful of suitable USFF cases (I'm going a socket route rather than integrated) but wondered if there existed some kind of universal bracket that would hold a PC in place - much like your average car dashboard mobile phone holder?

This could open up a wider range of suitable cases, possibly something more appropriate for my needs, or cheaper etc.

Also, does VESA account for any standard weight tolerance? I know in most cases it's more about sticking a monitor to a wall.. but anything authoritative about what I can stick on the back of my monitor may put my mind at rest..

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I see your point, but I suppose I need to take the stand into account.. as it's more the stand taking the weight rather than the plastic of the case.. which I guess means there is no standard weight! I can certainly lean a bit on the monitor without it creaking too much! :)

As for cases, there's a mini-box m350 which is spec'd to take a socket cpu of 65W TDP and under.. but I can't find any mention of its weight. A Jou Jye NU-526i-B is slightly larger - I don't need optical drive space but the 3.5mm HD would possibly be a bonus.

If I could find a way to mount it - there's the Antec ISK 310-150 allows for a low profile add-on card which I may be interested in at a later date.. that's listed at around 3.8KG

I saw your post in another thread - we've probably been looking at the same site in terms of research for VESA mountable cases. I'm looking at an IB i5 so definitely want to see how people manage the heat (77W TDP) in a case such as the m350.

Basically, the system ran up to 171 Watts on a psu calculator - i5 3570k / i7 3770k, 2 sticks DDR3, 1 HDD, 6 usb, 1x case fan

hopefully the picopsu 160W can handle it..


re: case fan -- I'm looking at a SilenX, Scythe Mini Kaze or a Fractal Design 40mm fan -- probably mount ONE onto the case, if needed

re: CPU fan -- I'm looking at a Deep Cool Theta 15 PWM -- sits at 46mm apparently...

I've heard anecdotal evidence to suggest the PSU calculators are a little on the conservative side (live in hope..), not sure how the CPUs cope with undervolting?
 
Well my system is up and running. Did a quick Prime 95 test. Only ran for 30 mins. Temps were fine (this is with stock HSF) and I'm guessing there wasn't a power issue either!

Will do some proper testing when I have had the opportunity to mess around some more.
 
sounds great, I'll be looking to do this mini ITX build in late July/early August anyways -- will be interested to see how your Kozuti handles things also
