I am applying for Computer Science because I have a keen interest in technology and computers, a degree in Computer Science is an excellent opportunity to expand my skills and knowledge from tutors who are experts in the subject.
A degree in Computer Science will be an important step in achieving my goal of a career in I.T. After university I will be aiming for jobs such as network administrator, software engineer and hardware architect, working for one of the main companies of the time, and I'm very dedicated in achieving my goal.
So far in my life I have attended two summer schools, the first was at Bolton University where I studied computer games design for a week. After learning the tools and techniques for 3 days a competition was held to design a map for the Half-Life game, which I won out of a group of 30 people. This success demonstrates my ability to learn quickly, understand concepts and use logical thinking to solve problems.
I have also studied a CBLC German course, which I sat two unit exams in, and I passed both. Combined with my English and Spanish speaking skills this opens up a very large selection job opportunities for me and also shows quick learning skills.
The second summer school took place at York University, studying Computer Science for a week, subjects studied included Artificial Intelligence, Cryptography, Programming and others. This experienced showed me what living at university is like and the lifestyle, and only made me want to attend university even more than i did before the summer school, and assured me that Computer Science is the subject for me.
Furthermore, I currently study Computing at sixth form, I find the course very interesting and a good starting block before stepping up to university level. I have learnt the visual basic programming language and have a good understanding of programming concepts and paradigms. I completed a Roman Numeral converter for coursework which involved the use of functions, maths and object orientated programming.
Outside of school i have a part time job working in a pub, where I work weekends. I have had to balance my education and work showing I have good organisational skills. Also working in the pub has taught me teamwork, communication, responsibility, punctuality and discipline.
At home I am very much involved with computers, at an early age I built my own computer from scratch, which involved a steep learning curve to fix problems that arose. Since then I have built numerous systems for myself and other people, consequently I have a very good knowledge of computer hardware. My problems solving skills have improved a lot since i became involved with computers.
Other than building computers I take an active part on internet forums and websites centred around technology. I enjoy helping other people with their problems and how to fix them. I also have became involved in beta testing various new software to help fix problems before the software is finalised and released.
