University Application Question!

When you apply to a university what are the main things it looks for in a personal statement? Also, does it use A.S levels or Predicted A levels as a guideline to making offers?

I tried UCAS's website but I can't find the answer.

Basically, I messed up my A.S levels (BBBC when I was looking more AAAC) and though I'm confident I can fix the mess up and get AAA at A-Level I wanted to know if it will mean I won't get any offers at all. I'm want to go to Durham or Warwick so I know I might have messed up the oppurtunity.
