Is there a way to see the Universities that have a partnership with each other? Is this possible on the Erasmus website? I've looked all over but I couldn't find anything. Maybe I have to go to every individual website of the Universities in the UK. :o

Ok, just to give some credibility to this topic, has anyone participated in the Erasmus scheme, if so where did you go? If you're intending to go, please do give details. :o :)

I participated in it for my third year (we do four years in Scotland) but only for the first semester of the year. I went to the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland and it was absolutely awesome, five other lads from my course and I went. Made a whole lot of new friends from all different nationalities, quite a few of us then went to visit various friends in their home countries once the exchange was over. The whole exchange seemed more like an extended holiday as we had no set grades to achieve other than getting a particular number of credits which was easily done (mostly in the last couple of weeks).

I don't know how you find out what universities are paired with which others apart from just asking your university. Some universities in the programme will expect you to speak the native language but others offer teaching in English. If you have any other questions then ask away and I'll answer to the best of my knowledge but it might be tomorrow as I'm heading to bed soon. :)

Finland, eh? Cool. Did you learn the language at all? I know some countries teach in English for Erasmus students, was that the same for you?

I did a basic Finnish course and that helped a bit but most people in Finland under 30 speak English as a second/third language which was lucky as 2/3 of the guys I went with didn't take the course. They do teach in English there however some of the lesson choices may be more limited because of this.

Which university are you thinking about going to, either here or abroad?

I have conditional offers from Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham to study a language + linguistics (joint honour). So, I won't really be going on the Erasmus scheme if I get the grades as I would have to do a compulsory year abroad anyway. I'm just mapping out a Plan B just in case I don't get the grades to study the language that I want. If this is the case, I'll be looking to study something different in a not so great Uni, but with the Erasmus scheme in mind as I'd still like to pursue my interest in the language.

Thanks very much. :)
