University Meet Up Thread!

Do you know what great dover street aprts are like?

There are upsides and downsides to the apartments... upsides are that you have your own ensuite shower/toiley, which is really cool. You're also in a pretty central location, not too far away from the campus(es) and central London. You also get to cook your own food... which can be either an upside or a downside - lots of people prefer to cook for themselves at a time that suits them, others are happy to live in catered accommodation (food is basically the same as school dinner tbh).

Downsides are that you are basically living in a flat with 6 or 7 other people, with a shared kitchen. You may not get on with those people particularly well (or particularly badly) but you may not become great friends with them... you will have to put slightly more effort into meeting people outside of your flat which at halls is relatively easy because of the great number of common areas, but at the apartments (SSA and GDS) is slightly harder. It's not really a problem as such (it's easy enough to make friends on your course, especially if you do a very popular one like English, Law or Medicine) but just something to bear in mind.

There's a KCL specific forum over at The Student Room too:

Thanks a lot for the information mate. I will be studying Mechanical Engineering. On the KCL website it says that the GDS Aprts have a common room, quiet study area and pool room. Have you any experience of these areas and what they are like?

who ever is going to be staying in Castle Irwell in Salford you are gonna have a great time, im back staying there again this year but in the second year flats! Cant wait to get moved back in.
