Just to remind all your geeks out there, today at 17:53:20 BST, the UNIX time will be exactly 1400000000.

Don't forget to watch and count down, this won't happen again 1500000000 in July 2017, so I expect celebrations at least 3 times bigger than a normal "New Years"! :)

Man, that was epic! All four of us in the office counted down and cheered.

See you guys in 2017 for the next one! :)

I remember when the Unix epoch went from 999999999 to 1000000000 ... fun day at work watching the app teams trying to fix some badly written code which could only hold 9 digits for it ....

To answer your questions, no - I wasn't kidding. We had actually powered up the big TV on the wall the managers use for their important stuff (first time it'd been powered up this year), and shared a PC screen onto it to display the UNIX clock. We each had our phones out taking pictures of the screen as we counted down to the big 1,400,000,000 tickover, then cheered when it changed.

Yes, I work in an office full of geeks.

Yes, we all realise how sad we are, came to terms with it many years ago, and now revel in it. Tomorrow night I'm staying after work with a group to play board games (One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Skull & Roses, The Resistance, Love Letter, and many others). This weekend I am hosting a very casual LAN party for them all. As I said, revel in your geekiness, don't be afraid of it!

And, yes, I have personally been rejected by many, many women. Not so much since I got married - these days I tend to get rejected by just the one woman, but I still receive many, many rejections so I guess it still adds up! :)
