Hi all - wondering if anyone else has hit this issue?
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
I have a device in device manager with no drivers under USB Controllers. Now some googling suggests this may be a USB 2.00/2.01 issue that was introduced with Windows 8.1 but it has apparently been patched by MS and my windows is up to date.
I've also tried removing each USB device in turn but it persists, suggesting it's part of the controller or motherboard or something internal?
I'm running a 2500K in a Gigabyte Z68X-UD5-B3 v1 motherboard. The case I'm using (Corsair 650D) also has some front panel connectors that perhaps could be culprits, but the wires to the USB ports on the back of the motherboard, when removed, don't take the problem away.
I've only noticed this problem on Windows 8.1. Windows 7 was fine (some time ago now, though), and I recall Windows 8 was too. I don't think I've checked device manager since the 8.1 update so don't know if it was there before I did a fresh install last week. As far as I tell, all drivers were installed properly and I've even updated Chipset etc. since to try and resolve but to no avail.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
PS: Spec -
Intel 2500K @ stock (removed 4.2GHz OC to troubleshoot)
Gigabyte Z68-UD5-B3 v1.0
2x4GB Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 1600MHz
AMD 6970
ASUS Xonar D1
Corsair HX750W
TP-Link TL-WDN4800 (This is a wireless card that works horribly under Windows 8, don't know why, tried every driver!).
