Can anyone help? I have a strange problem with my rig. Noticed recently that CS:S was just lagging all the time, and I thought it was to do with my connection or something...well I realised that a new game I installed the other day was running rally badly as well. Graphics card was not artifacting or anything and 3d mark scores weren't down or anything, just the games ran with slightly low FPS at times and were jerky. Really unsmooth and stuttered permanently. As a complete guess fix, I re-installed to the latest drivers and hey presto suddenly amazing performance, like it should be. All problems gone.
After a few days gaming, the problem came back. Re-installed drivers again and bang...problem immediately gone.
Then after a days gaming the same...re-install...fine.
Only clue I can give (might be red herring) is that the OS Hard disk is slightly fragmented and could use a re-format soon. But might not be related. I've checked processes on CPU and can;t see anything wrong there. A reboot has no affect when its performing badly.
