Can anybody tell if it is possible to unlock a BT Home Hub for use with a different ISP? I managed to get hold of one, it will be delivered next week, and I want to try and conenct to my ISP with it. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andy

I will be the second person to tell you that the home hub sucks. I wouldn't take one if they gave them out free and I own one.

It might be possible AFAIK Homehub is based on the Speedtouch 7G SIP perhaps trying standed firmware?

You might be able to telnet and use something like ...

ppp ifconfig intf=Internet user=<my-adsl-login> password=<my-adsl-password>

For what it's worth you might be better using a non-BT router.

and why does it suck? i have had no problems with it which cant be said for the BT voyager modem i had...
I know you didn't ask me but...

GUI is awful. Stability sucks, random reboots, random kicking some computers off the network.

hmm well the "random" reboots are it updating. well thats what it tells you and they arent that often. although i have had to unplug the power from it for a second when my net renews the ip i find the modem and connection good.

You should not really have to unplug it when it gets a new ip.... :D thats perthetic :D

I found with mine random disconnect's

Thread hijack:

I'm having trouble getting a non BTHH to connect on my BT line. I thought that the username was [email protected] and the password was blank (or anything). However, my router (a Billion 7402G) constantly says it's 'Attempting to connect'. But doesn't after at least 10 minutes. Anybody any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?

The main reason I want rid of my HH is that the wireless range is absolutely dire.

Cheers,

Edit: Ar harr! With the password 'plok' it now connects straight away. Great stuff.

My experiences have been the same, the wireless on it is so bad had to convert all the PC's in my house to an ethernet based network.

Plus as above the GUI really sucks.
