I need to unlock several handsets at work.
They have all been authorised by the network in question but I am concerned about the process.

Can it ONLY be done by connecting each handset to a PC with iTunes and doing a backup and restore?

Is it feasible, if I get all the iTunes accounts from the users that I can use one PC and login multiple accounts?

I know from the type of user that if I just ask them to do it there WILL be problems!

All you need is an active SIM card from a network other then the one it's locked to (and probably an available Wi-Fi connection) and you should be good to go without having to do any silly stuff (apple made it a lot simpler to do all this stuff several iOS versions ago where they removed the requirement for connecting it to iTunes on a computer to activate).

I'm pretty sure you can update the device without logging in to their Apple ID account.

Just plug them in to iTunes and let it do the rest :)
