Unlocked blackberry with own sim

I went to tesco to buy a blackberry for my son for Xmas and put his own sim in which is a tesco mobile contract sim. But the tesco man said he wouldn't be able to use bbm or access the Internet . Can anyone clarify this for me .

You need a BlackBerry Internet Service bolt-on. I'm not sure exactly how it works on Tesco but if you ask them I'm sure they will sort you out.

I imagine they can just add it in place of the regular internet bolt-on if it's a contract.

Ill nip in on Saturday . I don't want to waste his contract which isn't up till June.
