unlocked core temp behaviour

hi there

ive got an athlon 2 450 tri installed today. core 4 unlocks and runs stable.

thing is, with 4 cores the load temp is almost 70* (i thought hsf and tim issue)

when i put it down to 3 cores, load temp is about 37*.

to me that points to core 4 being duff.

your thoughts? (worst case ill put a dirty great overclock on it)

this new setup is stressing me now.

when i put it together the first thing i did was unlock core 4. things were fine, temps were a bit high, but i read temp reporting goes out the window with an unlocked core

it primed for 7 hours or so, no issues, ive changed a million setting since then, now i cant even get the system stable on 3 cores.

i did let MSI's genie OC for me. it went straight to 3.7ghz on 4 cores. stable still but since ive got back to standard i cant get it stable for love nor money

ram is on OE at 1.6v (up from 1.5v) and i still cant get it stable.

cool n quiet is off. any clues?

have you put every thing back to stock in the bios,3.7ghz is high for unlocked 4 cores, the locked core is usually weaker than the rest, when i unlocked my 720 i ran it at about 3.4ghz, where as i run 3 cores at 3.6,all overclocking should be done through the bios in my opinion, also when i unlocked the 4th core i enabled acc and set all cores to 0% or maybe +2% this apparently aids stability

i now think its software related.

i reinstalled the amd chipset drivers and it was prime stable on 3 cores but underclocked.

now running occt to see whats what.

i have put bios back to standard, re loaded defaults a few times and cant see anything out of place.

didnt think you could read individual cores when unlocking cores, mine cant,
also i dont think cpu should go above about 60*c

this things going to get a kick in a minute

been playing about with drivers again, now its stable with all 4 cores.

think ill leave it and just see

and now with the gfx drivers installed (had to be done in a certain order or there was an error) ive got all four stable with cool n quiet on.

i did put 0.05v extra vcore on because of droop (ive got a no brand psu in, youll laugh at what im getting it to do)

i bumped vdimm to 1.6 because thats what it says it can do.

im winning

new ram bought, corsair xms. with the old ocz ram everything was unstable in random ways.

corsair ram in, prime blend stable for 25hrs on 3 cores.

its blending now on 4 cores, all due to ram
