Unlocked Iphone Update Query

Having unlocked an iphone for the missus I now have a question....

I see that there are updates available thru the installer and was wondering if it is safe to install them or do I have to keep it "as is" after the initial unlock? There is a "community sources ver 3.6" available and don't know what is safe to install and what is not - can anyone please advise?

I have just gone to install the BSD subsystem install but now whenever I click on the install app from the home page it comes up with a popup sayin something about not using a password as it will make the springboard crash continuosly and it wont let me click on the ok button beneath it - what is this all about?!?
 
It's important to always keep the apps up to date from the installer as new releases ix numerous bugs etc.

That message about the BSD subsystem should only come up once, restart the iPhone if it wont let you click 'OK'.

alas it keeps comin up everytime i click on the installer :confused:
 
it just freezes - i can press home n use it as usual but when i click on installer that popup keeps appearing but i cant click on ok
 
It sounds like it might be updating the sources while that message is there not letting you do anything, what happens if you leave it for a bit?
