Hi,

I have been given an iPhone 3G from a family member who just upgraded to a 4S.

The phone is locked to Orange but I am with T-mobile so want to unlock it... is there any easy way to do this online or am I best to take it to a phone shop etc to get it unlocked?

Do you have to have it jailbroken to unlock the phone? I'm really not bothered about jailbreaking it tbh... just want to be able to use the phone on my network.

Any help or advice appreciated.

Thanks

Call orange,

they charge £20 and takes 3-4 days to process, you usually receive a text when its done, simply plug into iTunes and away you go.

AFAIK a phone shop couldnt unlock an iPhone

true but then does that not mess with any updates to firmware on itunes? (not that the 3g will have any due now)!

It doesn't "mess" with it as such, but generally you can't update to the latest firmware as it comes out, you have to wait for a jailbreak for it.

In my 3 years of having and using an iPhone 3G, I never found that a problem.
