Unlocking iPhone SE

Hi Folks I was reading on here a while back that Carphone Warehouse had been selling iPhone stock intended for contract use and in this case the handsets lock to the first network they are registered on.

I got my iPhone from the Carphone Warehouse so used the O2 App to request an unlock and got the following email from O2;

'Your iPhone unlatching request has been completed. To finish off unlocking your iPhone you need to put a non-O2 sim in and connect to iTunes using a USB cable. iTunes will then tell you the unlocking was successful'.

I'm waiting on a Gifgaff Sim to complete the above however, will this process completely unlock my iPhone or I will end up with it locked to Gifgaff after performing the above?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but want to be sure before doing it.

Thanks :)

You'll probably have to obtain a non O2 SIM card to complete the unlock since giffgaff runs on the O2 network and the system might think that you've put another O2 SIM card in and continue as normal without completing the unlock.

Also as I've already said, giffgaff runs on the O2 network and even an iPhone that is locked to O2 will still accept a giffgaff SIM card (giffgaff doesn't deal with locked phones and doesn't do unlocking because of that) and getting the phone unlocked will mean that it is completely unlocked since it would have been added to the apple managed database of unlocked i devices.

So I have just completed the above using a Vodafone sim but iTunes did not confirm the phone was unlocked when connected.

Perhaps it did and I never noticed but I was getting service on the Vodafone network and back on O2 again now with no issues.

I assume the unlock has worked ok then?

Sounds like it. If you’re able to use it on both networks then the phone is unlocked.
