I've currently got a request going through with O2 to unlock my iPhone 4 so I can use a Three sim I've just received.

However I really need to unlock the iPhone asap so I can move my existing O2 number to Three (it's currently a work number need to remove it from their books).

Does anyone know if I can jailbreak it and unlock it, will that effect the official O2 unlock when that comes through in a week or so?

Thanks

I've been told up to 14 days, I did mine a week ago but not heard anything yet.

You can jailbreak and unlock it for other operators but any iOS update will lock it again. Doesn't matter though as my iPhone has the latest baseband which can't be unlocked atm anyway.

Think I can get my hands on another phone temporarily to use so should hopefully be ok!

They have to contact apple to get the IMEI number for your phone put onto the list of unlocked iPhones.

You can check to see if its already been done by putting the new SIM card into the phone and connecting it to your computer (with iTunes running) and if you get a message that it has been successfully unlocked then it has been unlocked (you'll be told that when they've sorted out the unlock, but I thought I'd mention it so you can check beforehand).

The IMEI number is displayed in your iPhones settings/about menu so why don't they just ask you for it.

He said get them to put it on the unlock list, not get the imei from them. They already have but are supplying it 'to' apple who authorise the unlock.
