Unlocking my 3GS v4.3.5 (8L1)

Morning All,
Please excuse this total noob question about unlocking/jailbreaking my 3GS
Basically, I'm upgrading to a 4S shortly and my intention is to give my old 3GS to mrs_greeze. The only fly in the ointment is that I'm on O2 and she's on Vodafone.

So, the 3GS is locked to O2 (and she's only about 6 months into a 24 month contract with Vodafone so it'll be expensive to buy her out of that) which leads me onto unlocking. I know nothing about it at all. Never even looked into it until now!

What do I have to do? What happens with iTunes/Apple? Do they block you in any way? Will all my app/iTunes purchases still be okay? What are the risks to the phone (bricking)? Any security implications?

Any advise would be much appreciated...

Just contact O2 to get the phone unlocked..easy peasy and usually takes no more than a week.

So, once it's unlocked I can cancel my contract with O2 and let the missus put her Vodafone sim in it and all will be well?

No worries.

You've got it in one. Once the phone is unlocked just cancel your contract and you can do as you wish with the phone.
