Hey guys, I'm using my iPhone 3g on Orange atm, and it'd be nice to not have to jailbreak it. It's second hand, so I'm not sure about how to get it unlocked. Can I still do it through o2?

You still need to be a PAYG customer for over 12 months, though.

But if you unlock your iPhone less than 12 months after you bought it, we'll take off the free Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On (that we added for the first 12 months). You can buy a Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On for £10 a month when you fill in the unlocking form

Don't suppose it matters if you want to use Orange, but just a warning for those reading that post who might be on O2.

Sorry to bring up this old thread. Im looking at the best way to gte an unlocked iphone to use for my virgin contract.

I've had enough of my HD2 and when I came across this thread it got me thinking.

Am I right in thinking if I buy a second hand Iphone 3gs that is locked to o2, I can do the below?

1. get a regular o2 payg sim card
2. then put £20 worth of credit onto the card
3. then dial few calls out to your friends and family as this will registers the calls and o2 able to detect your iphone.
4. goto here http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/unlockmyiphone.html - o2 will take £15 from your sim to get it unlock.
