I was just wondering after my spout of unluckiness in components this build, what everyone else'es unlucky spouts were.

I had an ASrock extreme 9 motherboard that USB 3 didn't work on and had 2 dead dimm slots, got a replacement after 2 weeks that stopped posting. After that i got an ASUS RIVE which the on board audio through 3.5 mm jack went funny. Let my girlfriend order a replacement motherboard before I sent the ASUS RIVE back to OCUK and she ordered the wrong one. On top of this I had a GPU that was faulty....

I have had 10 years of no faulty components in all my other previous builds, apart from one of my old sound cards that came in 4 pieces from Royal Mail. So I think im getting all my bad components in one go.

So, share your bad stories!

i've had more than my fair share, seems to be some days god just doesn't like us pc builders, all i can say is if you don't like that a pc can be upgraded with an array of different parts, then get a xbox or ps3 or (spit as typing it) a mac :)

i think it's bad luck, and nothing else, 10 years is a good run, i started on my first pc is 1981 so have had more than my fair share of bad stories, maybe why im going bold im guessing.

if one thing i can say, it's never the part you think it is, it's nearly always something simple, after a while you go for major errors when something like a faulty lead or plug or half in connector is at fault.

re build and double check everything or leave it a few hours and start again as a fresh pair of eyes is better than reading the manual 4 times in a row only to find out a lead thats works fine in an old build just failed as you pulled it out or twisted it putting it in

I've had one motherboard go faulty and one hard drive die.

Seeing I've bought about 20 motherboards and more hard drives, not bad going so far

I also had dodgy hardware
The unlucky me gets partly working products
I was on only faulty motherboards from 2003 to 2008
Once i had to send back 3 hard drives until i got one without bad sectors (WD green)
One hard drive wend nuts activity 100% i could read at 1M/s from it recovering data was a nightmare
The list goes on on
Laptop chipset broken USB And mini PCI not working left screen hinge went last week
My PC will never start from its first power up blue screen or freeze
Mabe it has to get worm first because in never dose that wen working

1 OCZ PSU went pop, and two separate OCZ Platinum DDR3 kits developed errors after ~6 months.

Also lost a Nvidia GPU due to solder design fault (however the oven trick would likely fix that). And a DVD drive once exploded sending shards of optical disc and smoke hurtling around the room (no one was there at the time thankfully)

I have had two corsair PSU's blow on me and a motherboard that's onboard sound didn't work. My latest build I never had a single problem with, everything went very smoothly. I was quite surprised lol.

The most spectacular failure I've ever had was an SMC (from memory) 10/100 NIC in an Abit KT7 catch fire, it was in the machine my dad used and I heard from the other room "Wolf* Ultima Online just crashed", so I went through and a horrible smell was getting worse.
It turned out a cap on the NIC had blown/caught fire and taken a PCI slot with it, the PC however just froze on the same screen until it had been turned off :)

Other failures.
An Antec 550 watt PSU (came with the original Sonata) died after abot 18 months with a loud pop.

Too many HDD's to count.
Several video cards - usually the fan failing after about 18 months or so.
Fans - loads of different ones:p Starting with the fan on a 486dx4 100,cooler which from memory cost about £3 to replace back in 97 or so.
An Abit KA7 montherboard that suffered from what I later learned was a common problem, namely the cheap capacitors they used wore out after a while, and you would start to have major problems booting (it taking multiple attempts).
A soundcard.
The sound on a P166MMx's motherboard.
2x Dell 2005FPW monitors - both sufferend from C5 capacitor failure (I think it was C5 on the logic board) - both later saved by replacing the cap, and are now kept as spares :)

*Names changed to protect the guilty and all that.

Only had a stick of ram fail on me after 5hrs use. It was bought and fitted along with a new cpu, cooler, motherboard and hdd. Thank god it was only a ram stick and not something more serious.

Not a single problem. had a dodgy Roccat Kone, but Roccat are dodgy. I don't know what people do to their components... :p

Oh yeah, I suppose an old 80GB Intel 120GXP drive. Glass platter or something. That was ages ago.

Same here.
Although that might change, as I seem to be getting a strange noise from a fan on one of my 560`s, usually on start up, which seems to be getting worse. So may have to look at an RMA. May just be the bearing, properly just worn.

Had a Dead on arrival fan with my cooler and the screws which keep the bezel onto my HD7770 keep falling off. Which is annoying as i can't even get a screwdriver in there to tighten it up and i can't take the cooler off of the PCB as i lose my warranty :(

Had a 1090T arrive with only one memory channel working.
Had some Vengeance RAM DOA.
Coolit Vantage ALC burned out after 3 days.
Corsair H80 fell apart after 2 weeks, the cover fell off the pump unit.
Had numerous PWM fans arrive dead.
Had two Antec cases arrive SMASHED!!
Even had a 7850 with the wrong bios - from a company I don't deal with no more (s**n).
