UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME - Service Pack 2 Error

Hi,

A while ago I built a computer for someone and installed windows just fine, then I tried to install service pack 2 but on reboot I was greeted with a screen saying UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. There is a STOP error code but this randomly changes and I can't pinpoint it to one thing

The only way I can get it back into windows is by going into safe mode and removing SP2. I've tried slipstreamed installs of both Home and Pro and all give the same result. When it is slipstreamed however, the blue screen appears after the machine first reboots after copying files- even before it gets into the setup interface

Specs are:

A64 3000+ Skt 754
Asus K8V-X
512MB GeIL DDR RAM
Maxtor 80GB IDE HDD
FDD, CD-ROM & CD-RW

Thanks. I've looked at that article before and that is the first error code it gives. The bit after that (0xaaaaaaaaaaaaa etc) is what is random. I've checked what it says and all seems to be fine though. I've even tried a fixmbr and chkdsk /r from the recovery console but that did absolutley nothing

Any more ideas?

I've tried different IDE channels and cables- gonna try a new HDD tonight. When I've been formatting it it's always been though windows setup- always a full format though, I don't do quick formats Do I need to use FDISK or something first?
