Unofficial 360 Hardware? Does it exist?

I bought a broken 360 from a member of this here forum, I've sent it off for repair so hopefully the guy can fix it for me :)

But the xbox has no hard drive or memory card, and (excuse the caps, but) ARE THE HARD DRIVES A RIP OFF OR WHAT?!! £70 for a 20gb hard drive... you can get a 250gb hard drive for almost half that!

So I figured I'd get a memory stick, if the box is repairable, as it's a much cheaper alternative to a hard drive. But even then you're paying £20 for a 64mb chunk of memory...

I figure unofficial hardware would be cheaper, but I can't seem to find any?

Can you get unofficial hardware for the 360? Or somehow get a PC hard drive onto the 360? Or anything that means I'm not getting ripped off for memory?

Cheers! :D

Well the hard drive is a 2.5" hard drive so they are more expensive, but yes it is still overpriced. I dont know of any way to connect a pc hard drive to a 360 im afraid, other than using an external one, but you can use it for game saving.

Try the bay i got a 512mb memory card for £20 and ive seen plenty go for that. Im waiting for the 120gbs next month :)

Yes it can, there is a hax to it somewhere. Something that can't be discussed on these forums I'm afraid.

ok yes it can sorry slipped my mind but only up to 120gb, and its quite a complicated process but if your up to doing it, do a bit of googling.

It's dead simple, as long as you buy the right drive.

I can't seem to find much info on it! I've posted in a "console mod friendly" forum asking for a bit of info, but have a funny feeling I wont get much :p

Also, it sounds like I'm going to need a 20GB drive in the first place!

*carries on researching*

So is there no unofficial memory cards or hard drives? It seems weird - I know that I'd be making unofficial goods the second the 360 came out if I had ties with Chinese manufacturers!

If you're looking just for a 20gig hard drive, check a local auction as they'll be going cheap from the people who bought the 120gig ;)

can't talk about it here? isn't there a reason ocuk start stocking a certain type of hard drive? i could be wrong but sure i saw them put on the site not long ago.

either way, i'm sure you can get the hard drives MASSIVELY cheaper if you check the bay. its a joke they charge so much. but then again, theres almost entirely no use for the hard drive. demo's? who cares, maybe i'm the only one who can 99.9% of the time work out what games i do and don't want to play without playing the demo. use a game renting site at worst, probo the cheapest way to play console games, then if you actually find yourself loving any certain games online go buy it. theres a few beta's that do require the hard drive. but few and far between, the halo 3 one was the only one i knew of. but then again, you're playing an unfinished game so not missing out hugely, the games coming out anyway.

i did go for the premium bundle in the end but because i got a good deal with 2 games i wanted, aaa games that were gonna be £30+ anyway which didn't make it a great deal. but i did think the premium would keep its value better for when i get rid of it. the wireless controller is infact nicer than i thought. i still don't get out of cable range, and have it hooked up to charge most of the time. but now and then its nice to be cable free. i'd still recommend the core over most stuff though.

Haha, thanks dude, best laugh I've had today.

my hard drive is close to capacity the whole time, demo's i like, alll the e3 movies, tonnes of music, plus shivering isles (a good Gb) i could do with a bigger hard drive but not 120, more like 40-60 would suit me.

At this moment in time. 20gb is enough until they start releasing proper content via the market place. And yes they are hideously overpriced, buts thats offical peripherals for you!

Yes, yes you are.
Not for me, I'm always at the limit of 20Gb.

20GB is ok unless you download stuff from the US Live site,

If they ever release the kind of content they have over the pond in Europe, you will need a larger hard disk...

yes but, how often do you play demo's, you may keep them around but, a lot of demo's are like 30 seconds game play then the end. i still have demo's on my disk, but i don't play any of them, just not bothered to delete them. if i want any demo again i can, uh oh, i can spend about 10 mins downloading them again.

vid's from E3? why, seriously, how often do you rewatch videos? and why not download and watch the videos on a computer and store them on a incredibly cheap 500gb hard drive.

i can't honestly believe that you watch the e3 vids so often you have to keep them around. but then again, not only would i not keep them, i prefer not to watch them. as has been the problem with most adverts of games, films and tv for the last, i dunno 7-8 years they went from trying to intrigue the watcher to flat out showing most of the best bits of a film, leaving entirely no surprise anymore. frankly, crysis is coming out, its obviously a big game, i'm 99.9% sure i'll like it, i don't feel the need to spoil it by watching vid's of it for a year before i play it.

quite a lot actually, i help run the gaming society at my uni and every week i show the latest gaming vids to the members. As for demos i keep around the ones that are fun to play, like flatout 2 or full auto
