**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Pure laziness on my part. I was just going to wear them out then swap to premium summer/all seasons and carry on, rather than swapping in the spring. I live in Kent, so we barely get winter weather bad enough to justify swapping tyres twice a year. But I guess there's no harm is swapping them in spring and storing them.

Car is nothing exciting...Kia Sorento, hardly the epitome of driving dynamics.
If you've got them, then you might as well. My only concern with running the winters until they're worn is that worn winters are properly naff in wet weather. However, the Sorento won't exactly be driven like the GT86 ;)
I've turned up with tyres in my boot before, but I called first, to check prices.
Pretty much this. Varies from place to place.

Tyre guru's, i need some assistance.

I have a 62 plate Vauxhall Insignia estate 2.0 CDTi, the wife drives it every day back and forward to work only a few miles and it is our main car to use at weekends. Needing 4 new rubbers on it.

size 225/55/17 (101W)

Looking at the Michelin Primacy 3 and Goodyear eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 XL. I can get both for ~£450 fully fitted for the 4 of them. Opinions on these or anything better for same price or cheaper? Should note the car has TPMS so won't need valves when it comes to fitting.

F1A3 should be leagues ahead of the Primacy 3 (which is basically a touring tyre rather than a high performance tyre)

being a "high performance" tyre isn't really an issue as its the family car (1 year old daughter always in car), want something thats not going to fall off the road, relatively quiet, decent on fuel and wear. a good all round tyre basically.

So that being said would the Goodyear still be the better tyre over the michelin in terms of grip level, wet grip level, road noise, longevity, fuel economy etc or are there better tyres out there for the money?

It will certainly be better in terms of grip level and wet grip level, as it is designed for a higher market segment than the michelin.

In terms of road noise, and fuel economy, being a much newer tyre, it should be better. Longevity possibly not though (as grippier tyres have to compromise somewhere), although F1A3 hasn't been available for that long, so probably not too much feedback on that yet.

or perhaps the Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance 101W XL?

Get the Goodyear Eagle F1A3. It is a brilliant tyre that is quiet, with a very good rolling resistance and excellent aquaplaning resistance all at a great price.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking a "high performance" tyre is suitable only for people who drive Porsche 911's at 120mph everywhere. Think of high performance as just....better. They will grip better, they will handle better and they'll be as comfortable and quiet as lower end tyres. You may not be an aggressive driver, but the majority of us still do 80mph on the motorway and drive in very wet conditions that lesser tyres will lose grip quicker on.

The only thing that they generally aren't *quite* as good on is longevity, but this is down to driving style more than anything else. For instance, my mum has still got 5mm left on her Goodyear Eagle F1A2 tyres and she must have done 20k on them in a fairly heavy 220bhp RWD car.

To summarise - get the Eagle F1A3. To get the Primacy 3 is to buy an i3 processor over an i7 when they're both exactly the same price.

I actually have Efficientgrip Performance on one of my cars (in a 16" size), and whilst they are decent enough tyres for the target market (e.g. mid range tyres), if high performance tyres (such as the F1A3) were available in my size, I would pick them without giving it a second thought (having had UHP tyres from other brands).

Thanks all for the input, much appreciated. So i think i've rules out the Michelin and will look at the 2 Goodyears. Will have a look at a few reviews online also and do a bit of shopping around and see what i can get for what price. :)

Whats a good all year round tyre these days for a Focus MK2.5 ? in a 17" ?
currently got Conti Sport contact 2's on, and ive had dunlop blue response (or fast response cant remember) Prefer the dunlops

Need a new tyre so i'll buy a pair ?

I did post the other week but it got ignored :(

Tyres on my ST150 (205/45 R17) Are wearing thin on the front and need replacing. Currently got Avons but want something better and think i can stomach a few months of different on that backs to the front until the backs need replacing.

I'm looking between Pilot Sport 3's and Goodyear Asymmetric 2's which would be better? Or any others that would be recommended?

Get these. Better than the PS3, and the newer design of the Asymmetric 2 (whilst also costing the same amount):

https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/goodyear/eagle-f1-asymmetric-3/205-45-r17-88w-443765

Or they're £110ea on Blackcircles fully fitted

THANK YOU!! Was beginning to wonder why black circles was only showing the old out dated models and realised all i had to was scroll down and click on the make.

They charge crazy money to fit imo, comes to 180 inc delivery for mail order or 220 fully fitted, £40 to fit two tyres? they crazy??

It's not extraordinary.

Local place tried to me charge me £20 a corner.
I assumed he meant £20 for all 4 especially seeing as the wheels were already off the car with no rubber on..

Blackcircles should be £15 a tyre to fit though, checked earlier.

Anyone help me with a stupid question? The wife's Q3 needs new tyres in 235/55/R17 - I was going to order off Clackcircles like I usually do.

Standard car tyres in this size are fine aren't they? There's SUV/4x4 type tyres available on Blackcircles but I wanted to just put some Goodyear Eagles on, that'll be fine won't it?
