**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Before I default back to Pirelli Scorpion, does anyone have a recommendation for a tyre in 255/50R20 to go on a Range Rover? I'd love to be able to fit Michelin CrossClimate but they don't appear to be made in the right size. I'm not sure if I could fit a slightly different size tyre to give me a better range of tyre choice?

Depends what you are after? If you want an all season like the the CC then you can get in your tyre size

Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season NCS
Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season

Or winter tyres

GOODYEAR 255 50 R20 109V ULTRAGRIP PERFORMANCE SUV GEN-1
MICHELIN LATITUDE ALPIN LA2

I had Conti SportContact 5 when they were the very latest tyre some years back. Absolutely astonishing tyre, even better than the MPSS I had after that but the wear was ridiculous. I got 6000 miles out of a set whereas the Michelins were good for 12-14k miles under the same conditions.

Seems to be the story with the Contis - the CrossContact/ATR are decent on vehicles like this but a lot of people complain they wear fast.

Pirelli Scorpion are a decent option.

In terms of all season I ended up for various reasons going with Falken Wildpeak AT3WAs on my pickup though if your use is purely road they probably aren't the best choice as they do reduce fuel economy slightly compared to a regular road tyre (so far between 3 and 8% depending on use - averaging around 4-4.5% for my usage which kind of sucks with the increasing price of fuel). But they will cope with a wide range of conditions well and are well mannered on the road.

When my GT R was up in the ramp getting its ‘slightly’ delayed MOT, I had a good nose at my Cup 2’s and these seem to be wearing much more evenly, due to I suspect me getting a better set of pressures that are different to those suggested. Last set ruined the inside but now seems much more even.

No experience of them personally but in my experience with a few different wet weather tyres they've tended to be quite noisy.
Sounds like bearing noise but had those checked. Definitely the tyres.

Tempted to bin them and go PS4... the noise is very annoying

My Turanza t005 are like that - kind of whirring almost washing machine like oscillating noise. I even thought it was bearing noise at one point.

Seems to be a trade off, at least in my experience with wet weather tyres.

Currently got Potenza S001's all round but the car failed it's MOT due to exposed wire from a chuck of tread being gouged out on the front tyre, so will swap both fronts and eventually the rears. Decided to swap them to F1A5's as they're on offer and I was never particularly happy with the Potenza in the wet.

Was wondering, it is recommended that tyre pressure is checked every 2-4 weeks. How often do you guys actually do this?

Most of the vehicles I drive have TPMS in some form. Generally though if it gets low you can kind of tell as the ride and handling will be a touch spongy.

I still check on my truck every 1-2 months as there isn't a digital readout and there is a fair margin where it can drop below the kind of pressure you want to be running on the road and the alert.

Got a new tyre arriving tomorrow to replace the destroyed one on front offside of my BM. Bloody potholes and now the 3 mile drive to get it replaced and to see how borked the wheel is.:mad:

Before every journey now as had 3 slow punctures last year! If a tyre lets go at speed your a passenger & your car might get wrecked but more importantly you might affect other road users.

So even though I have TPMS I still manually use a tyre pressure gauge on each wheel as it gives you a heads up if pressures are uneven or drop suddenly (big clue to tyre integrity).

About once a month or when doing a road trip or track day the morning of. I carry a gauge in each car but both cars have sensors which correlate with my gauges.

Having a whole set of the new Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 6 fitted on Wednesday.

From all reviews so far seem like a great performing summer tyre for 17" and 18".

Just deciding if I should do the same.
Got 2 Pirelli P Zero's at more or less the limit on the front. Rears are OK - but tempted to pop AS6's all around - been a big fan of the previous generations and always ended up with them on all corners.
I need 19" - so looking at around £550 for a complete set (on my limited searches so far).

What do people put on SUVs? I know there are SUV specific tyres but the Tiguan isn't the largest SUV around so I thought normal road tyres would work fine?

I've just bought a Kuga that came with Michelin Latitude Cross (235/55R17) from new, but I was thinking the same thing - likely will be looking to swap to Michelin Primacy 4+ when they need replacing, which will likely be better in terms of fuel consumption and maybe improve on-road grip/handling.

(as the latitude cross are described as a multi purpose 4x4 tyre with mid catcher properties for off road traction - and my 2WD Kuga is never going to be used in anything more challenging off road than maybe a damp grass field)
