**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Need a full set of new tyres for the F-type. P-zero's on it at the moment but the handling feels really twitchy and had a bit of a moment this morning in cold and damp conditions.

Looking at reviews there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between decent tyres and getting a reasonable deal on Continental SportContact 7's. Anyone got any other recommendations before I throw out a heap of cash?

this review seems to look at them pretty well but I don't have the experience to know any better

That test is four years old, perhaps even five when the test took place. They’re still good tyres but it might be worth watching a few tyre reviews videos as things have moved on a little since then.

What’s the wheel size?

Asy 6 is my favourite tyre

Would also consider any Jag tyre as well, as it’ll have been tuned to Jag’s preferences.

A mid range elastic band should do the trick :) but seriously, how about the Kumho PS72 S?

I;ve been impressed with the PS71 and the PS72 S seem to be on par with the Michelin Sport 4S, P Zero 5, Sport contact 7 etc and seem not to be too pricey?

Doh, typo. Thanks, decent price, I’ll have a look at them properly later

They really arn't on a par with those tyres, going by the group test reviews.

Look to be a solid tyre at a good price, but nothing more than that.

SC7 and Asy 6 are such good value, they really are the best choices out there.

Are you looking at the PS72 sport? The PS72 S Sport seem to be their UUHP offering to compete with the Assy 6 etc. unless I’m missing something?

Yup, I have had my head in group tests with the SC7, PS4S and ASY6, along with the PS72, not the S.

Looks like a great tweak to their standard version definitely worth a go if the price is right.

I'd consider it if it came in the size I need.

Will be selling my MK7.5 Fiesta ST sometime soon. A the moment I have the Ford Performance alloys on with PS4/PS5 tyres.
I am thinking that anything other than a private sale it would not be worth keeping the performance alloys on the car, so I am considering sticking the original alloys on (some kerb damage on a couple) but that would require me to get 4 tyres on.

The MOT is booked in for the 23rd March, so wondered if it would be best to get 4 cheap tyres fitted purely to get the original alloys on and sell the performance alloys separately.
Camskill have some cheap tyres that would allow me to tick a box to get it shifted.

Not having suitable tyres on a performance vehicle like a Fiesta ST would be a big turn off for me. Many would expect a discount in order to replace the tyres almost immediately. Either pony up for something decent or sell the alloys separately. Or find something midrage, Hankook, Vredestein Kumho or Dunlop.

To clarify, if I were to sell via something like WBAC or Motorway, would it make any difference in the value of the car? I would understand that a private sale might put off buyers.

As above, I doubt that WBAC or Motorway would give me anything extra if I left the performance alloys on vs the original alloys with some kerb damage. If I swapped back the original alloys then I would be able to swap the current PS4 + PS5 tyres, and then just sell on the performance alloys without tyres.

WBAC, Carwow and Motorway will likely reduce the price offered if the alloys need refurbished, but will care less about the tyres.

I'm a little leery of Pirelli though I don't have experience myself based on the number of reports of quality control issues in recent times - though from what I've heard they are usually very obvious right from the moment you drive away if affected but still.

Track day at Bedford for me yesterday, and have to say the PS5's held up very well, very impressed with the wear on them given how hard I was leaning on it.

That's an American tyre comparison and their tyres don't always match the European versions. It also shows the PS72 by Continental Extreme Contact which isn't as good as the CSC7 and only just beating a 9 year old Michelin.
