**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Im going to buy some F1 AS2 next week for my 330i.

price from blackcircles.com is :

2 x front 225/40 R18 Y £265
2 x rear 255/40 R18 Y £305

total £569 delivered only. I can get my uncles garage to fit.

Anyone got any where cheaper to buy from?

You didn't specify the load index, or if you want runflats or not.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 225/40 R18 92Y - £174.38

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 255/40 R18 99Y - £253.58

Total - £427.96.

There are other sites to try. Have a read through this thread :)

That's a massive saving, I really want my garage to look like my shoe rack. Differenet boots for different days, and with tyre leader I can :D

How annoying, getting annoying road noise from my front F1A2's. Sort of an annoying resonating sound. On totally smooth surfaces it's silent but less than smooth ones it's there. Never had this with Eagle F1's before.

Then the Michelin Pilot Super Sports would have made you go loco. They wont get quieter, they were HUGELY quieter than the Michs

Bloody hell that Tyreleader site is cheap.

How much do most tyre fitters tend to charge on average to fit tyres that you supply yourself?

I just fitted 2 x Goodyear Eagle F1 A2's to the rear of my car. Wish I hadn't bothered and just kept the old worn F1A2s on there. The car feels horrible when going through right hand corners and the DSC keeps activating completely unnecessary. This happened straight after getting the Tyres fitted. The car used to grip like something else, the DSC goes mental if you go through a right hand bend anything more than gingerly, but on left hand bends it feels great.

How would I ever prove this was a Tyre issue? I've checked Tyre pressures about 300times, taken the suspension apart and checked all bushes and got a full kds alignment and no change. Gonna get the wheels swapped over and see if it follows the problem.

You need the tyres to scrub in and release agent to be worn off.

Normal for new tyres

Very true, but they are a bit wobbly too, Goodyear tend to have softer sidewalls which is why regular track junkies tend to hate em. Great all round boots, but wobbly

He's replaced the tyres with the same type though. This is a new vs old effect rather than brand

I put it down to this to begin with but it's been around 1500miles :p and only happening on one side. Nevertherless, I've got the tyres swapped over now to see if it is one of them at fault. It isn't :(

It still corners like it's on rails in a left hand bend, but in right hand bends, the DSC kicks in for absolutely no reason. I've turned traction control off and the car goes through left and right corners just fine, with no dramas whatsoever. My thoughts are that the DSC is detecting something is not right and cutting in - tyres aren't slipping and are really grippy, but maybe the car is rolling too much which is causing it to trip out?

I've had this with a previous 330i and fixed it by fitting new ARB links and tyres at the same time, so never knew if it was the ARB links or tyres which cured it.

I've ordered some rear ARB links and ARB bushes, so we'll see if that fixes it. Just seems so strange that this would happen after it's had new rear tyres? Maybe having the car in the air on a ramp did something to a bush/link??

Can anyone recommend a decent set of tyres for light off road use, that are also acceptable for frequent road use?

Perhaps an odd/niche request so here's the context....we have a 2005 X-Trail 2.2DCI which my girlfriend uses for her hobby (horses). The car is currently shod with Nankang road tyres which have been adequate. However, they will need replacing before the end of the year, and I'd like to think about getting something that's a bit more useful off road - by off road, I'm talking about muddy farm tracks and soaking wet fields; nothing too hardcore, but terrain which can be a problem come the winter. Eventually the Xtrail might be asked to tow a horse too, so good traction in such scenarios is going to be desirable.

I'm aware you can get proper hardcore knobbly 4x4 tyres, but the thing is, the car still spends a lot of time on the road, where I gather these aren't ideal. Hence the query - are there any sort of 'hybrid' tyres on the market that offer a good mix of on road performance while also being suited to rougher terrain? I'm afraid I know little about this market.

Tyre size is 225/55R17 accroding to Blackcircles (might actually be different, I can't remember...I'll check and amend the post later). I'm not in desperate need at the moment, but would like to start looking around, so does anyone have any suggestions?

We run Goodyear Wranglers at work which are a 50/50 tyre.

Good for dirt roads and some light off road use. Will clog up in thick clay and mud, but apart from a full on off road tyre what won't! Mud tyres tend to be terrible on road and very noisy.

Returning pretty good mileage before they wear out, much better than the OE fit tyres which are more road based and hopeless off road.

500 miles into the F1A2's:

+ Exceptional, staggeringly good grip. Just brilliant. Even when you launch it in Sport mode which used to just light the dash up with DSC, not a hint. They just grip.
- Astoundingly annoying intrusive tyre noise. Completely out of character for these tyres but so annoying I drive around wishing I could accidentally drive through a spilt load of nails so I'd be forced to buy something else. Getting close to ruining journeys kind of annoying noise. It's not general noise, it's a specific awful droning on 70% of surfaces (Totally smooth surfaces are silent). It cannot be right that you spend a fortune on 4 tyres that then effectively ruin your car in this way and you appear to have zero comeback whatsoever. Just.. what the hell?

Email Goodyear, they might be interested in looking into it.
