**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I've used Conti EcoContact tyres in the past and was never impressed with them. Uniroyal Rainsport/RainExpert will be better.

dunno if i will bother with having tyres delivered. once i factor in fitting price its usually the same or cheaper to get it from places like f1autocentre or halfordsautocentres.
although iv noticed for some reason a general increase in tyre prices all round. dunno why this is though.

Black circles price is fitted at garage of your choice.

I'm going to need a full set of tyres for the clio 182 i've just bought. Trouble is there doesn't seem to be much out there in the tyre size i need, at least not the latest release of tyres anyway.

Michelin PS3
Goodyear Eagle F1 A2
ContiSportContact 2
Hankook V12 Evo 2
PZero Nero GT

Car is for driving to work in mostly, but there are some nice country lanes that allow it to be driven a little harder (which i do if traffic allows). The T1R's on it at the minute don't fill me with confidence, especially in the wet.

Cliosport forum seem to recommend PS3 or V12 mainly, but having had PS3 in the past, i'm struggling to commit. The F1 A3 i've got an other car are pretty good, but again i'm struggling to commit to the older A2.

What tyre would be best for fast road use, that isn't going to be dangerous in the wet?

I would suggest rainsport3s. I had a full set on my 172, and I pushed it hard most days
Never had any grip issues and in the wet was great

I've had rainsport 2's and 3's in the past.

Switched from RS2's to PS3 on my last 182 and the differance in the dry was substantial to be honest. I also don't like how soft the side walls are on the Rainsports.

Switched from RS3's to F1 A3 on my last car and again the differance was pretty big.

The rainsports are a good option for a cheap tyre on a car that'll be driven normally, but not really suitable for a car that will be driven harder really, unless you like soft sidewalled tyres.

Went from rainsport 2 to goodyear efficient grip performance on my fiesta massive improvement in wet and dry braking. Imo rainsport only good in torrential downpour where the car doesn't aquaplane easily.

Anyone tried the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2s yet?

I've currently got CSC5s on the front of my Leon which stick like glue and have done throughout the lifespan of the tyre but I'm wondering whether to give the Dunlops a go.

Dunlops will never be as good as SportContacts in my opinion.
They're not bad, they're just not as good.

CSC6 must be out in your size by now?

Well, I'm having the RT2s fitted tomorrow morning. I'll throw the car around a bit and see how it performs. I'll have the tyres bedded in by Tuesday so will report back.

I looked at CSC6 but they're not avail in 225/45/17.

Just an update on the Yoko V105s that I've had on for 5000 miles now.

The wet and dry grip really is for want of a better word 'mad'. The car has F1AS2's on a second set of wheels and even though they're undoubtedly great tyres and are my second set on 2 cars, they just don't seem to have the same grip, especially in the wet.

The only downside to this is the wear. It's not good. And I'm wearing the fronts out quicker than the rears on a RWD car (MX5) which is a first.

I seem to be wearing AD08R on mine fairly evenly as well, I guess the being able to turn in faster and maintain higher speeds is why

Without reading back through all the pages... What are the general thoughts on the Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance and the F1 Asymmetric 3?

Need 2 new fronts for my Octavia VRS and not sure what to go for. Those 2 tyres look good on paper for the price.

They're totally different tyres, one is a touring tyre with a small bias to performance compared to the regular Goodyear Efficientgrip and is generally targeted at people with smaller wheels on non performance cars (I have them currently, as they were among the best I could find for 16").

The Assym 3 are a proper performance tyre, will likely wear quicker and not dish out decent economy figures but will stop quicker, grip harder and generally perform better in those sort of situations. They also don't tend to be available in smaller sizes, as they're aimed at higher spec cars.

Thanks for the insights. The car mainly spends it's time doing motorway commuting, with the occasional blast now and again. I wonder whether the efficient grip performance would be the better tyre for this and last longer etc.

Which tyre would people chose between the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s on the back of my 335i are due for a change shortly.

The Michelin's are supposed to last a good few miles, but there isn't really any test data available. Just that they're supposedly better than the super sports in almost every scenario apart from extreme dry grip.

On that basis, my dads just ordered some for his C class.
