**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

PS4S Fitted. Car drives a lot more predictably and is keeping grip down a lot better. Great tyres. Obviously a lot of money but also if they last longer then it's not too bad.

Definitely consider if you have a hot hatch or performance car :)

Let us know how they perform once they are rubbered in :)

Also if you can comment specifically on reports of them having a 'softer sidewall' that would be much appreciated.

Yeah will do. I can't drive much at the minute cos I've injured my wrist but I'll be sure to keep you updated.

Just taken mine to London and back so they have worn in. Grip is incredible, more than enough for the road. The soft sidewalls is aparent compared to cs5s but it's well controlled and give a nice feel.

My front tyres are coming up for changing soon (around 3.5mm left), can anyone help recommend a decent tyre for around £100-£150 per corner.

Current tyre: Michelin Latitude Tour HP 235/55/R17
Car: Ford Kuga 2.0 TD (Front wheel drive)
Mileage: 11k per annum, mostly town and dual carriage way driving with a 3/4 annual motorway trips for 2-4 hours.

Thanks in advance
Dan

The Pirellis I have on the rear are starting to show their limits in wet grip, so thinking they'll be replaced soon.

Best tyre currently in 255/35/18? Assume it's the Pilot Sport 4 or Ayssemmetric 3?

Full results:

9 - Toyo Proxes Sport
8 - Goodyear AS3
7 - Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2
6 - Bridgestone Turanza T001 Evo
5 - Dunlop SportMaxx RT2
4 - Falken FK510
3 - Continental PremiumContact 6
2 - Pirelli P Zero PZ4
1 - Michelin Pilot Sport 4

But when you look at the individual tests, AS3s came 4th, 6th, 4th, 6th, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 2nd, 2nd, 9th (Dry Handling - Subjective), 7th, 6th... how does that average out to 8th?

I know tyre tests are highly subjective and easily messed up and best taken with a bucket of salt, but even so. Falken FK510s are better than SportMaxx RT2s, really?

They give the break down in the article how the points are awarded for each category, 8th does seem low mainly caused by the dry subjective score of 72. The AS3s wet braking also seemed particularly poor compared to other tests taking 2.5m longer from 50mph than the PS4s. The CS6, P Zero and PS4 are newer tyres so not surprising to be behind them at least.

I think it's dropped down as the newer Sport Contact 6s (came 3rd) & a new revision Pirelli P Zero (2nd) were in the Evo test. Either way it looks like the Pilot Sport 4 is the tyre to go for if you can get it in the size you need.

It seems to slightly edge the Eagle F1 in that auto bild test and trail it in wet braking.

Though it's a Michelin which means loads of us can't buy it as they never seem to look at what sizes fit what cars hence why I always find non availability for either fronts or rears...

I dunno, it just seems like they messed up the testing/have a sponsored agenda to push. Every other tyre test ranks the AS3s much more highly. I could understand if it came behind the newer tyres at 4th/5th place now, but below tyres that are in entirely different (lower) price brackets and have performed poorly in other tests? Come on...

I find the weighting they give to the subjective stuff really annoying - it's subjective. I want facts not opinion. Show me what the measured rolling resistance is, the braking distances and the aquaplaning speeds.

8th is basically 'this is an excellent, well gripping and safe tyre but omg the feelz last place.

I don't care about feelz when the guy in front locks up on a wet motorway.
