**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

KwikFit have a 20% discount on Continental Premium Contact 6 for a full set. 4 tyres coming up to £617.60. Good deal imo for anyone on the fence.
Quoting myself. I have taken the plunge and got a full set scheduled to fit on Saturday.

Additionally will get 3.15£ cashback on Topcashback. So yayy!! :D

Will feel poor for some time but its ok.. lol I couldn't live with those rubbish tyres bugging me. I can always claw the money back. :p

I am switching to CSC (7) this time round, PS4S have had a good run for the last 9 years or so but it seems CSC7 is not only cheaper, but performance is better too.

I think Quidco are doing 6% back.

New tyres fitted in today. Gave the DOT codes and other visual branding a check. Oldest new tyre being from 42nd week of 2024. And that is ok imo. My guess is when these franchises put out offers they would normally clear out supposedly old stock. I am not complaining at £154 a corner for the Contis. :)

Initial Impressions are they are very comfortable and the noise level is very low. Not tested braking as I will give it some miles before (unless circumstances on the road bring out a heavy braking situation).

The Kwik Fit guy mentioned that the rears were very low on tread, about 3-4 mm. Fronts are very good and asked me if I would like to keep them in the boot. I denied and said that they need to be binned. They were new Linglongs and had only done 2.5k miles. Glad to get rid of them. The rears were Road Xs.

Edit: I am aware that new tyres have a shelf life of way more than a year provided they are stored appropriately.

Here's the obligatory new tyre pics.. :D

I got the 4 wheel alignment done yesterday at KwikFit. Was charged £103.90, as it included rear right toe adjustment. What's bugging me though is the rear right camber being out of spec range. It is at -2.26 and the tolerance range is -2.03 to -0.33.

I called them back to ask about it and was told a bit more negative camber is ok. I said thanks but gut feeling is telling me to double check. Google search tells that negative camber will cause wear on inside edge gradually.

Could you guys help with this please before I call their Customer Support for pushback? Attaching a picture below for before and after readings.

It's likely not that it's ok, just that there is no way that they can adjust it - most "normal" cars do not have adjustable camber brackets afaik. In which case it's being caused by something being worn or slightly bent.

Should I ask for a partial refund if they cannot adjust it? They didn't mention anything about it being bent or damaged?

Wild guess it is probably pothole damage has shifted or bent something beyond the scope of a wheel alignment and not much they can really do. I always find garages are a bit hands off with these things unless you specifically ask them to explain it.

As Armageus said above most cars don't have many options for changing the alignment so there is only so much they can do.

Thank you both.. I am not intending to say the garage is trying fleece me. But you never know. I will have the camber checked at an independent place and report back.

Edit: Oh one more thing. You can see after adjustment the camber went from -2.08 to -2.26. Maybe the toe adjustment shifted it. There's so much to consume here. :)

Why waste more money?
The machine they use doesn't lie, and unless they've tried to convince you to replace suspension parts, I'm not sure how they would even fleece you?
It looks (to my inexpert eyes) like they've adjusted it as best they can, but something is slightly bent or just worn. As long as it drives straight and feels "right" then any extra tyre wear will still be basically unnoticeable.

To be fair looks like the best compromise they could have done at a superficial reading, though I don't really understand it all beyond a general level.

EDIT: Agree with Armageus above - unless it bothers you not worth spending more money on and/or get someone to look at the suspension, etc. rather than alignment.

Agree with you. I didn't notice anything while driving. Got the check done as it was free and then got the adjustment done by paying extra.

I came here for second opinion. :)

Got my 435i with the classic BMW staggered 19s

Now got to put some tyres on it because it’s currently running 3 variations of PZ4s and a Bridgestone.

Gut says Asy 6 but can’t get them as cheap as last time (£450 all round). Best I can do is £590 from Halfords :(

I can get PZ5s for £700 which is tempting, given how they review.

Asy 6 are my favourite tyre but they don’t last very long. Was getting 7000 ish miles out of them on the 340i.

@MrRockliffe if you want to take a road trip to Brum I've got a nearly brand new set of BMW staggered 19s
think I've only put about 1000 miles on it before I chopped in my 440i
Asy 5 fronts and Asy 6 rears

I have no complaints about my Michelin PS5’s. 18’s though but also staggered. 20k miles and three years.
