i just had a package arrive today with my name and address printed on it, i haven't ordered anything for the past month

i opened it and its a sony Blu-Ray player with 5 DVD's.

theres no company name written on it of who sent it to me, but city-link was the delivery company, don't know whether to give them a call and see who sent it, would they be able to give me this information?

Happened to me once with a XFI Xtrememusic in the states....took me about 1/2 a day to figure out that I had ordered it the previous night while really, really drunk.

Perhaps a similar story to you? :p

i don't want to open the player itself incase in a few days the company rings and wants it back and i have to pay because i opened it

unauthorized goods are seen as gifts. So enjoy it.
If it was a mistake you would have to contact the company and inform them. But it isn't a blatant mistake and you don't have the company.

they cant make you pay for goods you didnt order :D

if there is no clear company marked on it then nothing you can do but enjoy you free Blu-Ray player.

I read somewhere that people that send you goods have 30 (?) days to request it to be returned, then you can keep it.

Weird that there's no invoice/delivery note/return address ¬_¬

I'd suggest holding it as is for 28 days and wait to see if you are contacted.

The paranoid part of me would be thinking, maybe it's full fo drugs and I'll be burgled soon. Maybe they'll murder me to cover their tracks.

Thats probably not the case so no need to worry.

If there's no company name on it, then how are you supposed to inform them of their mistake? Especially as you didn't catch what delivery company delivered it. ;)

Did you sign for it? If not, it's yours to keep and enjoy.

No they cant request to have it returned they can arrange to have it collected. You shouldnt be paying for anything.

Did you order anything off the bay or MM within the last couple of weeks, they could have sent you someone elses order by mistake.

pretty sure that's only if it's a mistake and you are meant to contact them.

If it turned out to be a company you had ordered something from before though, it could well be a mistaken delivery (wrong label got printed etc.) rather than unsolicited goods. The unsolicted goods act stuff was set up to stop those stupid companies who would send you CD collections etc. and then demand return or payment.

Make sure this isn't a "test" purchase on your credit card or similar. I hear it's not uncommon for credit / debit card skimmers to make a test purchase (albeit usually smaller and more discrete than a BluRay player!) to test the water before blowing your balance on junk for themselves. If you don't question the test purchase, chances are you're not that careful and they can get away undetected when they wipe you out.

Could just be lies though. :D But I'd be checking twice in your shoes. If you haven't been charged, enjoy the freebie! It's not like it had someone else's name on it (in which case you'd need to chase it up and let them know of their mistake). Addressed to you, it's yours.

Did you enter any kind of competition in the last year? I won a competition I entered in a flim mag many years ago and completely forgot about it. One day i received a bundle of video's, thats how long ago it was, with no explination as to who it was from. Took me a while to remember.

check your debit card statements. Most companies (and banks) will refuse delivery to anything other than the registered billing address for first purchases. It may be that someone has used your card to order themselves a blu-ray drive whilst masquerading as you.
