Unplug = Freeze

I'm using an ADSL connection with China Telecom and, when or if I pull out the network cable whilst connected to the internet the whole computer freezes.

Also, I bought a new microphone the other day and it has an on/off switch. This is always plugged in but, if I flip the switch to 'off' after I'm done, this also freezes my computer.

I've tried everything to make it unfreeze but the only solution so far is to power off and then on again. I just did a fresh install of Windows XP which was due, but the problem still exists. I have no idea why this happens as I've never had this problem before.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Phil.

Had the same problem myself as well as unplugging usb devices causing system to crash. The problem, in my case, was solved by getting a new motherboard.

No, not USB. I'll have a play with the power management settings of the NIC. Maybe it falls asleep when unplugged or the signal dies.

Hmm, I need to restore again anyway... I kinda erm, messed windows up in a moment of 'experimentation'. :p Nothing to do with this problem though.
