A Sony rep has confirmed that mouse and keyboard control methods will be available in the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament via the USB ports located on the front of the machine. The SIXAXIS will also be available to use, and the motion/tilt sensing can be used to control where to look. The same rep also suggested that the control method is also very accurate once u become used to it.

For those of you hardcore PC purists, mouse and keyboard controls will be available in the PS3 version through the USB ports on the front of the machine. In addition, the Sixaxis controller will get its usual nod and the motion Sensor can be used to control where you look. The Sony rep apologized for it not being accessible on the demo I was playing, and he suggested that it was actually very accurate once you got the hang of it.

thankgod Sony online service is FREE, because i for one wouldn't pay for a service where M&K players playing against joypad users on a FPS

Really makes me wonder what Sony wants to do with the PS3 either be a console gaming platform or a PC gaming platform?

whats wrong with just doing what its meant to do and thats play console games and everyone is equal, no wonder they are giving you a free service if its a free for all on what enjoyment you have or be forced to used to be on same level as everyone else that decides to go K&M

It has never been a secret that they will allow kb/m support. Least it is official. On xbox live you still play against people with kb/m anyway. And so many people want it. The amount of people on here who have said 'I would get a 360, but i can't play fps' without keyboard and mouse' is ridiculous.

Edit also i think the PS3 version(and 360) will let you play with PC gamers, so it is actually leveling up a playing field. So the PS3 and PC owners will be on a level playing field, and the xbox 360 owners will be playing PC/PS3 with their gamepads saying 'Thank god i pay for Live and the xbox doesn't let me use a kb/m'

Personally I wouldn't ever use keyboard/mouse with a console. It's just not what consoles are about, they're about lounging on your sofa in comfort with a gamepad, not sitting at a desk. TBH I see >98% of PS3 players playing UT3 on a gamepad.

However I wouldn't criticise Sony/Epic for giving people the option.

I've not read that anywhere yet. As far as I know it's Xbox Live only for the 360.

Is it?? i am sure i have read that they where going to allow cross platform playing. It is possible i read PS3/PC cross platform though, with the PS3's network being more open sourced.

According this interview with some UT3 person it sounds like you are right:

http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200702/N07.0201.1358.43054.htm

PC and PS3 inter compatibility but no 360 yet, but they seem open to the idea.

The main problem they say is that the Live network is not open to them like the PC and PS3 networks (I assume they mean the use of dedicated servers) and that the 360 does not have a keyboard/mouse control unlike the ps3 and pc, hence it would not be balanced.

Assuming M&K support for all 3 platforms ;)

Ahhh ok i c

The other problem is UT is such a mod happy game, it's the mods that maketh the game. I hope the PS3 allows the maps that the PC comunity will have. The xbox probably wont as everything on live needs to be vetted 18 times by 4000 people.
Would save me having to buy it for my PC then use that as an excuse to upgrade lol

I doubt the 360 version will let you play PC users. Live is still a closed format and Windows Live isn't even in beta yet.

MS won't let cross platform play with the PC unless there is some levelling introduced. They will never let them play against PS3 users!

I may be proved wrong, but i doubt it!

Time to request a refund from Microsoft for your live subscription MrPostNegativeSonyNewsManicMan??? :D

Don't know much about this, but there is a MS game called Shadowrun that is going to be the first game for windows live anywhere (on pc and 360) and it is a FPS game.

Some details here:

According to someone who has played in the beta they say they can't tell the difference between the 360 and pc players apart from when using sniper rifles.

I don't know how you could ever balance a FPS game, to be equal from a keyb/mouse vs controller point of view. BUT Microsoft seem to be trying this.

What are the chances of them including an UnrealEd for the PS3 and Xbox versions.

For the xbox very slim, for the PS3 i am hoping, if nothing else it can use maps created on the PC

The fact that Live is cut off makes it less suceptable to cheats and hacks, I am glad I won't be playing mouse/keyboard/cheats on every game.

Live is only going to be cross platform with PCs.
Sony may also share that same option with PC gamers but id very very much doubt you will ever find Sony and Microsoft gamers competing.

Should be a good game this
