Midway and Epic today announced the minimum and recommended system requirements for the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3, the highly anticipated first-person shooter scheduled for release in November 2007. Please see below for all information regarding these requirements along with newly released screenshots from the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3.

Minimum System Requirements

• Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista
• 2.0+ GHZ Single Core Processor
• 512 Mbytes of System RAM
• NVIDIA 6200+ or ATI Radeon 9600+ Video Card
• 8 GB of Free Hard Drive Space

Recommended System Requirements

• 2.4+ GHZ Dual Core Processor
• 1 GBytes of System RAM
• NVIDIA 7800GTX+ or ATI x1300+ Video Card
• 8 GB of Free Hard Drive Space

Pretty damn low recommended requirements imo. I should be able to play it pretty well then :)

that bit seems a little odd, is an x1300 actually anywhere near the power of a 7800GTX? i thought an x1300 was the bottom of the barral on the x#### range

but anyway no matter, all high for moi :D

Thats what i thought too. I thought if anything it should be the x1800 or something. Oh well :D

Recommended 2.4Ghz Dual Core CPU?

So they dont recommend, say, an E6300?

I would take that "Recommended 2.4GHz Dual Core CPU" with a pinch of salt. The E6300 will be able to run it fine. A Pentium D at 2.4Ghz is slower than a C2D E6300 at stock im pretty sure.

nah

they'll be referring to a dual core pentium

i cant remember what game it was, but one of them flagged up that my C2D e6600 might not be enough for them as it was only clocked at 2.4ghz

could have been Company of Hereos ?

anyway i laughed and proceeded to turn all the settings up to max :D

Yea same thing happened with me in Lost Coast. It says it needs 2.9GHz recommended (odd number i know), but my E4300 is at 2.8GHz. Ran smooth as butter.

My rule of thumb when dealing with publishers specs:

-Completely ignore the min specs
-Look at the Recommended Specs
-Add 50% to the cpu, ram and gfx power
-That's your new MIN spec for good performance.

New minimum spec  I highly doubt that something more than a 7800GTX will be the bare minimum requirement to run the game. If you read the previous posts, every UT game has been optimized to hell and back. The game will be extremely scalabe. I think those specs are about right from Epic.

My 'new min spec' wasn't listed as the 'bare minimum requirement to run the game". I clearly stated that this was for good performance, ie the kind of thing serious gamers want. I don't thing something offering 150% perfomrnace of a x1300 is overkill really.

Regarding UT optimisations, don't forget that UT2003 botmatch was fairly cpu limited and no matter what settings I used I couldn't get consistently high framerates (sure, the average is high, but not min) on my rig at the time.

Also bear in mind that other games we have seen released using the UT3 engine haven't exactly offered blistering performance.

I never said that recommended settings will run the game at its best. I just said they seemed pretty low. Most people on this forum seem to have good specs or are in the process of getting a good PC. The 8800's will run UT3 smooth as butter with a C2D and 2GB ram. The recommended is only what Epic say the average gamer should have to enjoy the game and make it look good too.

Im not sure what you mean about the UT2003 botmatch performance issues. I never encountered any problems whilst playing it with the modest of a computer.

For all those people that "dont believe" the specs, they have already been confirmed by Epic.
