When I try to start it I get the opening small still graphic,

Then I get a small box with "Critical error" at the top containing;

Stack Dump 7 calls;

each of which takes the form

Unknown(0): <various text>

(There seems no way of doing a copy/paste on this box but I will transcribe it if anybody has reason to believe it will help)

Once I "Ok" this I then get a second box containing;

General protection fault!

I have done a web search and while there are other reports of people suffering this particular problem there, as yet, does not seem to be an explanation or a fix for it! :(

I have tried deleting and reloading U2 via steam but I also note that some people have developed this issue on standalone versions of the game (IE Not Steam ones)

Oh, And I am running Win8 64bit with a GTX590 graphics set up, again other details can be provided if anybody thinks it might help

And It was working fine last month! :mad:

Any suggestions from the highly knowledgeable people here?

Tried disabling SLI? I seem to remember having issues with the boxed copy on Vista, but it was such a long time ago :o

I don't know about Unreal 2 but sometimes UT2004 has a similar startup error.

The fix is to uninstall then reinstall.

Tried both of above. No dice :(

there have been no recent hardware changes.

I have tried loading an earlier graphics driver in case a recent driver update might be an issue again to no avail.

There are others out in internet land who have suddenly developed this issue so it isn't just me.

But, as I said, I don't seem to have found any resolution on line :(

Since it's an Unreal-engine game, go to /system and delete unreal2.ini (I guess this would be the name). This will force the game to start with default settings.

Bit of a guess since I don't have it installed.

Further info.

10 If I do a "Verify game cache" and ensure all is well.

20 I then try to start the game (which then crashes)

30 I then do a verify again, It says "one file failed to validate and will be reacquired"

40 GOTO 10

(IYSWIM)

Is there a way of finding out which file is getting corrupted??

Just for info.

I seem to have solved this.

Went to Xonar Xense Audio Centre and disable GX mode!

Funny thing is, I am sure it was OK before :confused:

Anyway, All seems ok now :)
