Hi

after spending hours backing up my data from my laptop, and neing tired and stupid, I removed the parition on my extrenal hdd by mistake :( via diskpart during xp setup, as soon as I thought about what I did, I unplugged it and replugged it to my desktop machine and the partition has been removed (doh!). is there a way to recreat the partition keeping the data on the drive as a prevs removed the partitions on my laptop drive.

Thanks

testdisk

first link in google

did exactly the same as you, this'll just recover the partition :)

you can run it from within windows, and it takes about 20 seconds total to scan and find the partition, then restore it

I downloaded it, but it wont pickup my extrenal usb hdd. I not recreated the partition yet on the drive. Do I need to do that first?

all you need to do is have it plugged in and on

run the program and it should ask you which drive you want to run it on

this screen shows 40gb drive, a camera mem stick and an 80gb drive.. you have to select the drive you want, then scan
