Unsecure backplates

Morning folks! I have a couple of 680s with EK waterblocks on them and was wanting to put the EVGA backplates on them. Now I have heard that the EVGA plates don't fit th EK blocks because of the thread the mounting screws use. Also, to be perfectly honest I really can't be bothering taking the cards out the system to attempt to fit them. So what I'm asking is, what, if any, are the risks of just placing the backplates on to the cards and just leaving them loose? My rig doesn't move so am I right in saying I shouldn't have any shorting problems?

Regards,
Ross

Dont think so. There is what looks to be a soft heat transfer pad on the plate which would match up to the back of the actual GPU chip.
