Unsmooth gameplay, unless VSYNC'd or 120fps..

Hey guys, i just wanted to talk about something odd.

Right, so basically, out of the games i have played, i get odd reactions from all.

Games like Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Duke Nukem forever and a few others, if i run in windowed mode with VSYNC off, these games run smooth and flawlessly, or if i vsync them they run great (Just mouse lag makes me not do that)

If i run some games at fullscreen like Dead Rising 2 off the record or Postal 3, the gameplay only looks smooth with vsync on or if the game hits 120fps... Now the thing i dont understand is i have a 60hz monitor, so how could it look smooth at 120fps rather than the monitor cant display above 60 so i dont understand this?

And some games run fine regardless of vsync on or off or windowed/fullscreen, example being Just Cause 2.

Now i dont understand if this is my rig (Amd 6870, i7 2600 @ 6GB of ram) Or just the games being the games.

I reinstalled all drivers, wiped windows etc and no help.

I do plan on upgrading next year to a 120hz monitor and a nVidia 680 hopefully. (Not necessary just wanted to state because i need to upgrade for BF3 and such, graphics whore me am)

Any suggestions on this? i also tried overclocking the card a tad to no success.

After changing the graphics higher on Just Cause 2 until the point its around 60fps it starts doing the same thing, becoming really unsmooth with vsync off.

Im starting to think it is a problem with my AMD card, but i have no idea

... Also after testing the windowed mode i realised that doesnt even work now... So im at a loss here what to do... Really starting to make me angry.

That's called "micro stuttering".

Basically your frame rate drop for a fraction of seconds. More here: Micro Stuttering

But the odd part is that it shouldn't be happening in a single GPU system.
