Unstable as hell 4770K

Yo.

So I'm trying to OC a 4770K I bought last year.

Every time I dial in let's say a 4.4GHz overclock, around the maximum area my chip seems to be at all stable, I'll run into blue screens at random intervals on my desktop. Even reducing this overclock fairly significantly I'm STILL running into the same problems. Granted, I'm running lazy overclocks when I do this, often just changing multiplier and core voltage.

Could someone give me a quick run down of what settings I need to tweak or link me to a simple guide to get my 4770K OC'd?

Or do you think there may be something more serious wrong with my chip, such as chip degradation?

System:

Z87 Pro
4770K
Dark Rock 2
8GB Team Xtreem 2400
Radeon 7950
Windows 8.1

Thanks.

EDIT: half of my problem is probably the 1.34v I had to set my CPU at initially to even get a 4.4GHz OC O.O

You may need to adjust other voltages as well. List up what the following are running at.

SA
IOA
IOD
Cache
CPU input voltage

Ive had to manually set theese when clocking both a 4770k and a 4790k.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys. Well, turns out I was setting the core voltage WAY too high. Now at 1.24/4.4 as a quick and dirty and it's been super stable :D Oh system agent voltage was also probably what helped.

May try pushing it further, but now comes the unnecessary heat, power usage and instability for what is basically for bragging haha.

I'm fine with my Dark Rock. CPU temps aren't the problem, it's just a ****** chip. 80 degrees at max load for me is fine.

I just tried 4.5 again and alas, immediate failures. I can boot, sure, but it'll BSOD pretty quick. I wish I was better/had more time to tweak with OC'ing but yeah, diminishing returns for real. I don't even NEED to overclock, I just have a compulsion to.

GPU overclocking is far, far more important to me. As far as that goes, I just stuck my 7950 @ 1100 and it's been like that ever since I got it.
