Hi all.

I have some strange stability issues with 2 pc's i have made in the last month or so.

System 1 is

Celeron D 3.06 ghz
Asrock Dual Core VSTA mobo
2 gig DDR2 667 ram
Inno 3d 7300 le graphics card (256mb)
400 w silent PSU

system 2 is

Pentium D 3.2 ghz
Asrock Dual Core VSTA mobo
512mb Kingston DDR2 667 ram
Nvidia Geforce 7300 le Graphics card
450w silent PSU

Both systems worked well, obvoiusly the celeron didnt touch the pentium D in performance terms.

My Problem:

After using the celeron D PC for around 4 weeks with 1gb ram, i upped it to 2 gb ram (2x 1gb sticks) and around 2 days later the system started randomly re-boot, with nothing in the event logger and no BSOD? After a few hundred boot attempts (about 20 lol) i decided to re-install windows nd use one stick of ram. The pc gets to the beginning of the windows setup (says 39 mins to go) and re-boots... again and again. an endless loop of hedaches and frustration.

ok now to system 2

Built this using completley new parts. Worked lovely overclocked to 3.6 ghz, clocked it back down to stock after the testing. Still worked really nice and fast. HOWEVER i opened outlook to get my mail, and was confronted with the exact same problem as the celeron D system. Random re-boots just as windows opens at the welcome page. After trying a few diffrent HDD's, diffrent ram, new IDE cables, diffrent heatsink everything i could think to try i tried... but still in this endless loop of re-boot at welcome screen.

So i took it all apart, bought new kingston ram, and re-built it for the 2nd time. Nothing same problem on windows install as the other Celeron D system. get to the windows install screen (39 mins to go) and it re-boots....

both PC's emit a high pitched whine / noise / frequency when cp is in use....?

The only common factor between the two is the ASROCK DUAL CORE VSTA mobo's they are the only same component on both pc's. Is this the cause of all my problems perhaps, the mobo is not really up to the job as its a jack of all trades board - AGP + PCI-e DDR + DDR2...

Its pi**ed me off no-end... However, I now own an E2160 cpu and thats the mutts nutts for a cheapo conroe Dual Core CPU, so in one respect its done me a favour.... just i have a cupboard full of Brand spanking new PC parts and i dont know what works and what doesnt - and the Mrs is ready to kill me for spending a fortune! lol

no ideas?

Think I'll sell the cpu's and mobo's as "faulty" and try and claw some money back from them.

I wouldn't give up hope that easily.

Run memtest on both systems to eliminate the RAM from the problem.

Try running the systems with a different PSU to eliminate that. Try different motherboards to eliminate that. Random reboots are often caused by PSU's being dodgy.

Just a systematic process of finding out what is causing the problem. I wouldn't give up hope that easily.

To get my kingston ddr2 ram to work in my 775dual-vsta without errors in windows I've had to use very conservative settings in the bios. With most settings on auto and the compatibility mode enabled. It runs the ram at way below its rated speed but it's stable and that's good enough for me.

i gave up hope a long time ago.... lol

Im so pi**ed with them,

I have tested the ram, changed the ram from kingston to budget ram, tried different HDD's. Tried different PSU's - tried new cables, and aftermarket heatsink and fan, tried kicking the case.. nothing... I tried both CPU's in my mothers system and both worked fine...

the kingston ram and 450w PSU are now set to work on my E2160 with no problems

this is 2 diff systems encountering the same problem using different hardware.....im stumped by it all.... i think this is the 8th and 9th PC i have built in 3 years and never once have i had this sort of problem?

The only thing i can think of is the stability of the Asrock main board, and the fact that both CPU's make a horrible noise while on the Asrock mobo and not on an abit mobo....

AGGGHHH why me... lol

New bios or drivers. No other explanation.
Update bios, if problems persist. Throw them out. I hate budget motherboards. You get what you pay for

Neal your sig is 25 pixels too high lol

kk, will sort it out *** on. lol

damn i dont want to get rid of the "one retarded user line" but it looks crap smaller... any way on a serious note..

Would try a bios update if i could be arsed, but i think i cant! as the e2160 is nice, and someones going to buy the cpu's off me, so theres some cash for me to buy a better mobo for the E2160 yey!

Nahh, just had a play with both boards and chips, no matter what i do with them they wont work... whats the odds on having 2 duff motherboards?

I stuck both CPU's on my mothers abit board yesterday and thet seemed to work fine, bios recognised cpu change and everything was cool.

My bro says he'll buy the CPU's off me for some builds he's got planned, so not a total loss. The mobo's will have to be sold as faulty, and i dont want to put any other cpu on them just incase I do more damage lol... im jinxed at the mo!

As for the spare ram, hdd, PSU, and other assorted peices... i think i can use it as an excuse to make another PC he he he..

Might go for a more top end system as i just sold my motorbike last week and 4K just cleared into my bank wooop!! so i feel like spending some money now..
