Unsubscribing from emails

Is this not meant to be permanent? I have a few repeat offenders where I unsubscribe, they go quiet for a few months and then they start again. I've just marked them as spam but shirley there's some legal mumbojumbo to prevent this kind of thing?

Nextdoor gets a particular mention, as do British Airways. Can never get rid of them permanently.

My biggest issue is services that don't give you the option to delete your account. I sold a Neato robovac probably 18+ months ago and no longer require the account, emailed them multiple times, including getting a reply from their data protection officer and absolutely no action taken. I can still sign into the account today

I've even emailed the ICO, not sure who else I contact to get them to comply with deleting my account/data.
 
Use a different email address for every service. Options:
- get your own domain and diy it
- with gmail use a "+" address
- use an email masking service, e.g. 1password+fastmail collab

Then you:
- know who leaked your personal info
- can block addresses as needed
- are protected against ppl cross referencing your email address to find other services you use
 
I like Gmail because it has subfolders for emails like this, but it can still get a bit much.

Facebook, eBay, Just-Eat, Amazon, Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Argos, Caffe Nero, Topcashback and so on.

How do you fellas manage your email flow?

The only 'spam' I don't mind is the ticket sellers called Skiddle because they send me gig recommendations every week and that is relevant to me. Also Spotify, again for gigs / what's going on.

i have a few auto rules

Just eat,deliveroo,paypal -> all get redirected to takeaways

amaazon & other ecom > Online Shopping

Ooof fastmail is expensive, the premise of email aliases are great - especially these days. I'm using a mixture of Simple Login and anonaddy.

Legally they can't just randomly start emailing you again if you have opted out, my guess is they have been sneaky and set up multiple publication lists in their ESP, and you only unsubscribed from one of them.

In Gmail, I have Primary, Promotions, Social, Updates and Forums. Is there a way of adding Takeaways and Online Shopping?
no but you can setup labels I created rules to auto label stuff,
then i turn categories off
everything in the inbox without a label then its prioritized to read first then gets added to labels if needed

this way inbox + non labels = new content

i also have a label called unsubscribe that looks for that word in emails & put them in that label, to me if it has that word its junk so mass delete gets done

When you get to a level where you don't care that you get 50 emails a day and only one is relevant, your life improves. I gave up chasing spam free inboxes years ago.
