I use my built computer for games, since cod bo came out it has struggled to play it so I upgraded my CPU and CPU cooler and added an extra HDD while I was at it.

I had
Intel Pentium D Core 2.2ghz @ 3.2ghz
Freezer Pro 7 CPU cooler
4gb GEIL 800mhz RAM
ATI HD5870 Sapphire Vapour X OC
2 HDD 1x250 & 1x160
On a Abit IP-35
powered by a Crossair 620PSU

I upgraded to a
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400
Crossair H-50 v2
Added and extra 1TB HDD
Rest Same

When I powered up my comp, it turns on every thing starts spinning then turns its self back of then keeps repeating this, it doesn't even get to the POST screen.
I reset the BIOS before Turing it on, booting with only 1 Stick of Ram in different slots usually have to to set the voltages anyway so.. I though that maybe I had bent my MOBO pins, but just took out my CPU to see if I have bent any pins but they all look fine.
I did think power at first but then I trying using my old 3850 and it still did the same but then saying that the 3850 wants more power than my new one, and ive not got any other psu to like try it with more power.

Does anyone have an idea what's up? Would be nice to knows it just the psu but I have no way to check :/

Thanks Jake

Does your mobo need a BIOS update to recognise the new CPU? You missed anumber out on cpu spec btw, check manufacturers website, you may need to put old cpu in, flash the bios to a newer version, then try again
good luck

forgot to check that thanks, ill give it a go now. Thanks for letting me know about the cpu spec, changed.
ah hate the idea of flashing bios but hey
thanks

I have the same problem as well...I got a E5300 to use with my old MSI P6N SLI V2 board, but the PC will power up fans will spin but no post screen. I later check the manufacturer site and realised I needed a newer version BIOS for the working with newer CPUs...but I'm quite unlucky that after updating the BIOS, the PC will post ONCE (has display on screen and can get into BIOS and see the CPU details no problem), and won't post again after switching the PC off and try to boot for the 2nd time.

Hope you will have better luck than me.

What PSU are you using. What's it's rated voltage?

I'm sure you can flash that asus board without a pen drive or cd... just go into the flash section of the bios and you can select the .rom file from the hard disk.

Corsair HX 620Watt, ATX12V, +5Vsb rail with 3A rating. sorry if none of that helps cant find it on there homepage, so had to use amazon.

no i made sure i didnt, as friend has same cooler and i rember when we did his it said not to do up tight on the instructions, but its probly the bios as atm its v11 and the latest one is v18 i just didnt think of it tbh just checked the socket and fsb

im a wee bit stuck with the flashing the bios, i have to do it through a cd i ran to tesco and grabbed a few, but i cant find a good tutorial on how to do it, and my mobo's sites useless. I have fount one which builds it for you, i just need to add a line of what it to auto run, it just dosent give an example so im not sure what i should write in the autorun.bat

its this website: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#corpmb
this topic: on Clean Bootable CD-Rom (for BIOS upgrade) [updated! may 6, 2005]

thanks again

well.... I have managed to flash my BIOS to the latest it works now its just in the BIOS now it recons my cpu is running at 98degrees, ive reset it since the new cpu is in, and the wcing system is working, so i take it the sensors dont work in the updated version :/
Surely if it was getting that hot it would get hotter and hotter but i turn it on straight away go into bios and its bang on 98 and not moving at all. not hotter or cooler. So do you think that its the sensors not working correctly?

are you sure it has sensors in the chip? i'm not 100% knowledgable on chips sensors but as far as i know a lot don't come with temp sensors.

Upon buying the chip did you look at reviews etc and find all its relevant specification details etc when you are upgrading you should look at what your machine is capable of and the specs you would need to change if you were to go a certain way within upgrading.
as for the sensor issues check your specifations on each of the components withion your machine, if you are unsure look up reviews on the components from the net, you never know, you may not even have temp sensors.....

hope this helped
